Does anyone do dressage in a trekker style saddle? According to the rule book it's allowable to use a treeless saddle, but not a saddle with a raised pommel. Looking through the different types of saddle I see several that appear to be quite raised over the front, so how would you stand with this?

Not talking about affiliated here, mainly just local depending how it goes. My Fell mare is in a Thorowgood cob saddle with the widest gullet but I wondered if treeless was the way to go if it was ok to compete in.

why wouldn't you be allowed one that was raised over the pommel?

It says specifically no saddle with a raised pommel such as Australian, iberian or traditional Arabian saddles. Scrolling through pictures on the net the pommels are similar in some models of treeless.
I would be a bit peeved to be pulled up over it. Maybe I'll keep looking for something more traditional looking, but flexible enough for my little black huffalump.

I have a Solution saddle that I compete in. It's legal.

This is my lad in his.

that makes a bit more sense as it would be the saddle holding you kn more - presumably then something like a barefoot or treefree would be acceptable

I competed BD up to medium in a Solutions, you couldn't really tell the difference unless you noticed that it sat lower in the front that treed saddles.

E-mail BD a photo of your saddle and ask them. They usually reply within a few days.

Thanks everyone, nice to know its possible,GinaGeo you guys look great. I guess I'll have a look and find something we like.

All seems a bit ironic really when you see some of the Bates dressage saddles, with the deep seats and massive knee rolls, talk about hold you in place!

I agree! Some of the dressage saddles have huge blocks. I've seen more than one rider braced against the blocks, either because the horse is being a bit fresh shall we say, or because the rider seems to have forgotten what an independent seat is and is using the blocks as an 'aid'.
