Hey, do you guys know of any dressage instructors, particularly classical dressage, in the bristol or surounding area? I'm looking more towards classical as I want someone who believes in soft effective riding compared to that of some of the modern techniques...

Any help appreciated...

Mike Aylmore http://www.practicallyclassical.com/

He comes up from Devon to me (in Berks) so is passing Bristol.

Mike is one of the kindest riders I've met. Doesn't do 'instant' results so no gadgets, no hauling about, just proper, consistent schooling using classical methods.

I've been told that Tracy Reynolds is good, not had a lesson myself yet but got one booked for a couple of weeks time. She's based in Priddy, Somerset (about 30 mins from the centre of Bristol). Might be worth giving her a call, she's on the BHS website.

Sorry to hijack post but I'm looking for a dressage instructor in Berks. Do you think Mike would be patient with a nervous rider on a non-dressage horse? I have an allrounder schoolmaster who I could pinch for an occasional lesson - we wouldn't be aiming to compete or anything, just improve my riding and (hopefully) the horses way of going.

I'm sure he would!

He's endlessly patient with me and I'm a complete numpty. And I don't compete in dressage these days so it's just about getting me and the horse going correctly.

Contact him and see what he says (he's lovely to talk to btw - not at all intimidating). Time might be the only issue as he lives in Devon.
