Hi
Can anyone recommend a dressage instructor in Somerset? I'm competiting at BD Novice and want to move on. Need someone that's not too scary!!

which part of somerset are you?? and how far would you like to travel??

there are quite a few there is Virginia peters at stretcholt (bridgwater way)

or I know Beanie Box is very good and although she isnt strictly somerset she will travel!

I dont know these but there is also Mary Skelly or Sophie clarke!!!

All have good reputations im led to believe not sure if they make people cry or not!!!! (i know beanie box is lovely and kind but effective)!!!!

I would also recommend Sophie Clarke she is based near Badgworth Arena

ive heard good things about sophie clarke but never had lessons with her

have with beanie box and she is very good shes based at langford but would travel and has facilities if you wanted to go there!!!

Have had lessons with Sophie - she is good and based at Badgworth. Very useful for sharpening you up.

Virginia is ok but expensive £55 an hour and I personally do not think its worth it unless you are competing at medium and above.

I want to have lessons with Bridget Grant as heard excellent things about her.

I train with Jo May and she is very good and in Wedmore. An eventer but very good at dressage and she has bought my dressage on more than anyone and my last horse was regularly scoring high 60s/70%. Jo is £35 an hour.

Would definatley recommend Sally Goodwin-Davies who is based at Kingfisher Equestrian in Castle cary :) Contact details are on thier website and she doesnt charge the earth either

We have used Helen Griffiths for pure dressage, not scarey at all, and a total love, she got our PC team to the National Champs and even better, got our Open team (which my daughter was on) a win. However, for results at BE would totally recommend Brigid Grant who is at Wells. She has totally transformed my daugther's dressage. Scarey mind you, but excellent! If you want contact details, pm me.

Another recommendation for Bridget Grant but as far as I know she doesn't have an arena so comes to you.

Also Nicki Stevens at Burcott Riding School if you need an arena (Nicki doesn't travel although does some teaching for Mid Somerset RC)- Bridget and Nicki are friends and are both very knowledgable.

I would say Bridget tends to concentrate more on how the horse is going and Nicki focuses on the combination.

I'd second the suggestion for Diane Followell - she is absolutely excellent. I've never had a better instructor infact. Classical trainer - has got my ex-racer/team chaser (and I - I have very little experience of dressage 'proper') going like a star. She was trained by Nuno Oliveira for 3 years which I understand is quite good? (I'm not a dressage whizz).

Anyway, good luck finding someone you like!

i am going to go against everyone and say there is a very good lady called shena kazoba kozubska (or something like that!!) she was based at equi sense, but not sure where she is now!

i only had 2 lessons, one a PC rally and yes she was very good.. trained my friend for pony dressage team etc.. i probs would have gone again but horse got sore :( and then we got back with my old instructor who knew the horse better and stuff.... :)
there is also someone called Tracey collis at Half moon.. but dont know what she is like..

I've been having lessons with Tracey Collis (was Crutcher) for three years and found her really good, I organised some clinics for our Riding Club with her as well and she was popular with several other members as well.

Gill Longhurst, Helen Griffiths, Sally Goodwin-Davis all great plus if you can get a space Rhett Bird teaches at Kingfisher and he is also really good!

If you find a good jumping instruction please let me know struggling to find a freelance one, did have Flora Harris who was brilliant but has since re-located!

This may be a silly question - but is a new instructor necessary? Or have you been flying solo up to now?

If you have been happy with current help, there shouldn't be any problem for him/her to carry on just for moving on a grade.
