Hi, so now that norman is on the mend, I really need some lessons - I can no longer ride, and he has perfected the art of ignoring my attempts

Norman is a Luso x TB, and tbh his dressage his basic, we can do lateral movements like shoulder in and leg yield, but he/we struggle with engagement and use of his big fat bottom. I don't need someone to make me push him forwards to use himself, as then he just runs - I want someone to take everything back and get me started from a good place iykwim. He has had pretty much 2 years off from real work. He's had PSD and tenosynovitis, so at the moment I'm being a bit precious with him, and don't want someone forceful who will break him, but at the same time I need pushing :o

Ideally within about half an hour of Wetherby? I have googled it and some names come up, just wanted opinions or other ideas? I need someone with a sense of humour to I think! Thankyou! :)

I use Sue Joy based in York ive had her a year now and have found her fantastic, really knows her stuff and very understanding of horse and riders wants. also great sense of humour im not sure what hurts more my lessons or the amount we laugh usually at me like, theirs lots within a half hour drive is say though, you have Margot tiffany based at Northallerton again very good, Cathy Burrel, Sue Hirst, Ian Woodhead, These are a few i know if you google them contact details should come up, aslo might be worth having a look at your local riding club website see who they use? Hope this helps and good luck we all need a bit of guidance every now and agen :) xx

Thanks, I do also need to join my RC - so thats a good plan too, thankyou! There's a few instructors I won't go to (memories from having them as PC instructors) will have a look at Sue Joy :)

i love sue is great and always has inventive ways to help you progress, i know one of her pupils rode for the irish Para olympics team this year aswell so she went to london with her so cant be too shabby i guess :) if you want anymore details feel free to pop me a pm xx

Margot Tiffany would suit and is based at Northallerton which is an easy drive from Wetherby.

I'm not quite sure how to phrase this, but based on what you've written I don't think Ian Woodhead would be quite your cup of tea ;). Plus he rarely teaches at home anyway.

I don't know Yorkshire well, but Madhector from here has moved there recently, and is offering training....can imagine she'd be very good to have lessons with :)

Thanks GB - yes, there are names I recognise and know I should stay away from! I'm not really a dressager, and want someone to realise that whilst not treating me like I'm stupid/rubbish :)

IMR - Ian Brown I've just realised teaches in the riding club I'm going to join, so he will be worth a go I think - thankyou.

Madhector eh? I might give her a pm if she doesn't see this :)

Another huge vote for Margot Tiffany- she is just fabulous. She used to teach me at college and had an absolute ball with Margot, she makes every lesson so enjoyable- really miss having lessons with her!
And also another vote for Ian Brown, had a few lessons with him in the summer and he really helped me crack the flying changes :)

Claire senior from Manor grange or Nancy walker.
Had some good lessons with Claire but if you want sense of humour go for Nancy walker. Nancy is also really good at working exercises for soundness and not pushing the horse forward regardless. Gotta go but pm if you want more info

Thankyou everyone,I wasn't expecting such a response, I have to do a bit of homework and trialling to find the right one now :)

I think MH might be a bit far from me really, that's more like an hour away, unless she does clinics etc nearer by? Huddersfield is about an hour in the lorry :)

Hi
Nancy is great, very classical and breaks everything down in easy to understand way. She has spent a lot of time in Spain and Portugal etc so I think she will be really useful with your type of horse. Def recommend her!

Kirstyl - I've had a lesson with Tracy before, thanks - had forgotten about her, although I think she might be a bit too eventery (is that a word?).

Slavic - thanks for the feedback, need to compile a table I think!

Ferdinase - will let you know when I get organised and let me know if she's heading this way :)

No - no lessons yet - typical disorganisation on my part, (although I'd like to blame the weather!) I got as far as filling in the forms for the RC, so halfway to a lesson there, although I fancy having a few with different people to see who I like - will give an update when I do. Norman's just had his back shoes on again today, so I can really get cracking getting him fit on roadwork (I have no school) :)

I highly recommend Becky Moody - the whole family are wonderful; super high achievers and yet some of the nicest, most down to earth people you could meet. They are near penistone

Isn't the internet a wonderful thing? I've just been taught how to analyse traffic for my website and wondered how the heck I had got a mention on Horse and Hound. And now I understand!

I'm in the Wetherby area on a fairly regular basis and pass through on a regular basis so I am sure we could sort a first taster session out if you like.

I've also got a new course running in East Yorkshire and Doncaster and you'd be more than welcome to come and watch if you'd like to see me in action first.

Added to that I have access to some schoolmasters now - they are not flash beasties but they do give you a strong point of comparison. All very well behaved and quiet.

Thank you to those who have recommended me - big smile on my face now!

Small world, Nancy Walker must be the person who used to come to Hopton Horse centre a few years ago.!!

I can highly recommend Liam Fisher, pm me if you want his number. He is fab! Does clinics at Bobbys Horse Camp, Somerford Park too.

I have just pm'd you!

Hi, just to add that Tracy Garside may event but she also competes pure dressage too and is so keen and helpful at getting horse and rider combinations to progress. Every horse and rider are treated as individuals. Can't praise her enough for the help she's given me :)

Hi! The email hasn't come through yet for some reason. I'm teaching in the USA this week - so don't phone! I'm back on the 6th Feb or we can sort something out over email. PM me your email address and we can keep talking. Soooo glad to hear the snow has gone - not sure if I prefer the snow to sogginess though!

Speak soon.
