dressage Intro test B

hi

am doing my first dressage test in years tomorrow! am doing the intro test B (walk & trot).
one of the moves is a 20m circle in working trot at A allowing the horse to stretch. do you think this means to give the reins as in a give & retake the reins or is it more like free walk on the long rein type stretch?

any advice much appreciated!

p.s. wasnt sure whether to post in CR or not, thought a walk trot test was a bit too novice for that lot!

Hi, I have done that test and i think my instructor told me that you just move your hands forward slightly for 2-3 strides, to allow the horse to streach a little, you dont want to give them away as in walk, because you won't want to be faffing with your reins when you get back to A.

Oh see I was told different, you are suppose to show a proper stretch so you want the horse to take the contact down. It depends on whether you want to go for the full marks I suppose?

It's a stretch as in free walk stretch for the whole circle

Give and retake is for 2-3 stride - not in the test.

That said Intros are for starting out so prob best to go with what you feel confident with.

Absolutely, do what you feel you can. Even if you get a few strides of stretch in the trot you should be a good 5.

i just want to get from the beginning to the end without looking a complete prat!! i think i will see how we are going at that point. i think if i loosen my reins completely i may struggle to maintain the trot & the circle so will just judge the situation as it arises.

i just hope i can remember where to go next!
