Hi

Does anybody know the etiquette on the wearing of dressage tailed jackets, I think they look so nice but I was always led to believe that you only wore them at top level, recently I have seen more and more being worn at local unaffliated shows and was wondering if what other peoples thoughts on this matter . I currently wear the standard pikeur black jacket but would love to wear the tails lol.

For affiliated, you can't wear them until you attain the higher levels. at BE, that's Advanced one-days, and either CIC or CCI* or **s.
I'm surprised if people are wearing full tails at unaff, surely it'd look a bit too pose-y for words, do you mean the ones with the shadbelly (cut away front like tails, but not with long tails, if you know what I mean?)

Maybe their usual one was in the wash? Oh well - whatever floats your boat as they say, it really doesn't matter. By the way PG1, I think Pikeur jackets look fab and far more 'correct'.

When I worked in a tack shop a woman came in asking where she could get a top hat and tails for her daughter who was doing an unaffiliated prelim dressage test at the weekend, luckily I told her it wasn't necessary and a normal jacket and hat would do!

Lol.... it did look weird especially as they were only doing intro tests, one lady did have the cut out jacket with the smaller tails and that didn't look to bad but I still thought it was strange at an unaffliated local show and yes your right the cost is huge !!! If my boy doesn't wipe his mouth on me atleast 5 times at a show then somethings wrong !!!!

Lots of people wear the cut away jackets now. They are just an ordinary jacket with the front cut out so are perfectly acceptable at all levels.

You have to have a very flat stomach to wear them though!!!

Tail coats are not allowed until Advanced level and would not be allowed at unaffiliated comps run under BD rules (unless running Advanced tests).

Can't picture the cut away jacket - put me a link up someone please - but I think I've only ever been to one dressage comp and that was unaffiliated so I've probably never seen one.

This sort of thing? :

Very smart. Thank you Jtoo. Mind you, I bet that costs a few bob and you'd need the waistcoat as well. I vote black/blue jacket I think (if you don't want to wear your tweed).

That one is $549 - available in "special fabrics" for extra cost. Personally I'd feel like a complete twit wearing something like that. Mind you I'd probably look like a badly stuffed sofa as well:D
