Hi Jodie,
Thanks for the info, seems a little sad that they need no more than a rough idea, not really my idea of encouraging people to take dressage seriously contructive critism even for beginners surely would at least give us something to work on!
You can get some really poor quality judging at unaffiliated. Why not try doing some BD prelims ? some of them are really easy and you don't have to join BD to do the prelims.
That's why it's unaffiliated. I have found that a lot of the livery yards who run regular unaf dressage competitions, generally don't have listed judges or even trainees, and often the staff at the yard will be judging.
However most Riding Clubs will use listed BD judges, to judge at their Unaff competitions, so my advice to you would be to find out where your local Riding Clubs are based and book into their dressage competitions. You can also ride at Affiliated BD competitions at Prelim without being a BD member.
Our livery yard run affiliated and unaffilicated classes but the introductory walk/trot classes are at unaffiliated level and although I have ridden for over 50 years I have only ridden walk/trot tests within the last year. I now have a new horse who needs to start at the bottom and have noticed that these classes are judged by other livery owners and they do not give any constructive critism.
