I've played around with a few bits with my mare, a big, thick set IDx mare. So far I've found she goes best in a Neue Schule trans angled Universal (with lozenge joint). I generally only use the snaffle ring for schooling and even jumping, and only resort to the lower 'gag' ring when I think extra breaks may be needed.
My problem is that I want to do some dressage tests and this bit is not legal. She goes OK in a loose ring snaffle with lozenge but it's just not the same, particularly in canter to trot transitions when she leans and pulls.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a dressage legal bit that will give me the same feeling as my Universal, or should I just persevere with the loose ring snaffle?
Thanks
