stupid question... but if you have a ‘school’... either a real life proper indoor (lucky ducks), outdoor arena or just a grass paddock to school in that is not a standard dressage arena size... how do you lay out the markers? So for example, we have a nice flat, dry paddock that is 35m x 65m... I know I could get poles to mark it smaller but Id rather use the whole thing and wondered about laying out the markers, would you space them wider to still give reference points to school to?

Yes, just space them to the size you want. You can always make it smaller if you needed to practice a dressage test for a competition!

I pop a set of metal dressage markers out in the winter paddock once it has rested enough. (brought cheap off local faceache group)

I measure out a 20 x 40 in the centre of the paddock, (baler twine is great, you can measure out lengths once tied together & cut so they are exact for 20m & 40m- but dont forget to measure the distances between markers too (like between H & E) & tie a bit of different twine as a knot at each point - hope you get what I mean?).
Its very deceptive when jamming letters in, so dont forget to measure across too - from E to B etc & down centre line....

I ensure all markers are in right places and use old buckets to mark the corner points. Once its been used a few times, the track is visible.
Being in the middle of the paddock, it means there is plenty of room to work outside it.

Occasionally if we really are practicing for something, then I'll heave out broken poles to mark the track edge for entry at A & pull the A marker back.

Have fun :)

I measured it all out correctly then put the markers in. Then I can school round them or practice movements for a test within them as well. Best of both worlds.

We just put ours out yesterday as an extra option for those into dressage, i just have to put the markers out now, we also put a little spray paint at the end of each so when horse move them we can place them back

spray paint!! great idea!! I never thought of marking it out in the middle of the space either, seems obvious now! Thanks everyone.
