complete newbie to dressage, but as diva is off for the foreseeable me and lily have done a couple unaffiliated and decided to give the BD quest a go over winter, just at intro!

question is, at affiliated do i need to go and get a back number? or can i just have bridle numbers/saddle numbers and be told my number when i enter?

looking to go out on our own, and the only issue is i don’t trust her enough yet to leave her on the box unattended to go and get numbers…if this is venue specific i’ll have to ask the one we’re going to, but i’ve already messaged a few times so thought i’d ask you lovely lot first!🤣 never been to the venue before and won’t have chance to go before the first qualifier - i know it’s outdoor arenas so assume they’ll be “proper” facilities - if it was a tent on a field i’d just take the pony with me😂

2 bridle/saddle numbers is all you need. Which you take with you. I have loads as always forget them so have some dotted about now in lots of places.

Cheapest are from Kramer for bridle but I have some nice ones which do both saddle cloth or bridle - QHP.

You are told you number when you get given your times - normally online.

perfect thankyou! in that case i’ll make OH come to the first one for moral support, and then we should be good to fly solo!

Good luck - if feeling very stressed out you can always get your partner to read out your test while you ride as perfectly fine.

bless his heart i think he’d be more hindrance than help😂 im useless at it myself though! i’m hoping i can try to learn them as one test if i learn them in order…we’ll be doing 2 each time, but at least there’s no canter to remember yet!

sorry completely different question but thought i’d ask before making a new thread as the handbook is confusing me haha…can i qualify for/compete at quest intro on 1 horse, and area festivals at prelim on another?

You can but beware it is VERY easy to knock yourself out of all intro at Bd/Quest. Any points at Novice and you're out and if you go to area festival at prelim and score 65% you're also out. So while you can do both if the dates don't fall right and your AF is first and you score over 65 you won't be eligible to go to any quest finals you've qualified for at intro.
I got 6 points at Novice, 6 years ago on my horse of a lifetime and I will never be eligible to ride an intro again.

so basically, unless the areas is after the quest, or we deliberately mess up the areas, i’m stuffed🙈😂 thankyou! was hoping to get diva out to the intro next year after her injury, and step lily up to prelims, but might have to rethink that one!

I'm afraid so. BD are very much of the opinion that intro should only be used as an intro for the rider once and then crack on.

even olympians have to get their youngsters out at some point?! you’d think they’d be better off introducing the bronze/silver/gold, they’d certainly get more money from me😂

ah well, cheaper for me to keep diva at intro until she’s ready for prelim! maybe i’ll just keep them in the same level as long as possible to make things simple🤣

You can do Novice at Quest and stay in Intro for your next horse but if you dip your toe in full affiliated you're out! So if you want to keep your intro eligibility that's the way to do it.
I made sure I got a full season in at intro and prelim before I moved on with my novice. Alfie was working Medium when i did the associated champs at intro! I only realised the issue when I went to bring the next one out a couple of years later.

yeah i’ve decided to keep them both in the quest, much cheaper too! i would really like to qualify diva for the associated champs, its a shame lily’s breeder never registered her so she can’t go too🥲
