My first dressage event is this Sunday and as entries have closed i've just sat down to work out the times for all the competitors.

We're doing Intro B, Prelim 1 and Prelim 12. Do I leave a few extra minutes between each test than is required so as no-one's running over making other people late? If I do this will I then make my whole event run massively early?

Not sure if I should stick to the 4/6 minutes it takes to do each test, or to leave a minute or so's gap between each test?

Advice appreciated :) xxx

When I organise mine I put 7 minutes for each test. That way there is enough time for the judge to write comments etc. My judges are always happy with this.

Depending on how many entries I will schedule a 10 min break between each class

When I did dressage times we left 7/8 mins per person, so @ 00, 07, 15, 22, 30, 37, 45, 52, 00 etc...

Also, depending on how many entries you have, we used to give the judges a break say every hour or hour and a half leave a couple of spaces so the judges can go to the loo etc!

Good luck!

I schedule a break after an hour for 20 mins because it gives you a chance to catch up if running late. The dressage test will tell you at the top how long it takes and then I normally add an additional 2 mins per test.

Excel works out all the timings for me!

I judge and the norm for Prelim is 7 minutes. BD issue guidelines for the length and number of breaks for the number of horses. I cant remember them offhand. You can request this from them not sure if it is online.

7/8 minutes between the tests. The less experienced the riders the longer they take for some reason. Better to have a little too long between tests and CV run on time than be running late because you made the times tight.

Give 10-15 mins between classes.

7 minutes plus 10 mins break every hour for loo/catch up; 15 mins between classes too.

I also find a scary steward is useful to let people know when they are next in and to chivvy them along!

(This is all at RC btw)

I judge and you need 7mins for each test at prelim level. Intro is 6 minutes, and also make sure there is a break after an hr of 15/20mins to allow time to catch up I necessary and the judge to have a break as well
