For training a medium trot for a horse that it doesn't come that naturally to..?

I have ridden loads of horses that naturally have a super medium trot button. But my current lad is struggling with it - I just can't get him to sit back, release shoulders and open up the stride...?

Any tips would be much appreciated as this is the only thing holding him back as he lateral is coming on super and he has a great loose walk, lovely working and collected trot and fab canter......but we are stuck on the medium as he just goes faster in pace and I can't get the change in gait, moments of suspension feeling...if you know what I mean.... Xxx. :)

Thanks ... Xx

How's his collection? I find a more collected trot helps as you have the back end really working which then helps with getting the medium. Shoulder in really helps too as do trot poles that are moved further apart to encourage a longer stride.

thanks - his collection is going well and he is really starting to push of his hind legs upwards in the canter strides. His shoulder in is getting much better can be a little tight at times as he is trying so hard to please he stresses himself.....so have been telling him ......good boy....goooood boy in the lateral shoulder in, in trot to get him to relax frame a bit more which works well.....just need to get him to relax and release shoulders in the trot......working with trainer on the poles.....hopefully it will just fall into place one day. :D.
