Dressage peeps - helps with correct dress please!!

I am starting to do some dressage and will be doing some local classes to start with - hoping to do affiliated next year. So I want to start to put together a 'correct outfit' for both me and ned - hopefully taking advantage of some sale bargains!! - but would appreciate some help as to what is considered correct - things like colour of stock, can you wear a Patey, what colour jods, tweed or black/blue jacket. There seems to be a huge variation at the local unaffiliated so can probably get away with stuff for now but thought I could slowly get all the right pieces together.

Blue or black jacket is best, your Patey is fine. I have off white jods and matching stock, they are Pikeur ones (sale purchases

) and I can't remember the colour but I thought they looked quite yellow when I got them but are now a lovely pale shade. I would wear white but am really not the right shape

Generally I make sure my breeches match my saddle cloth and stock. i.e all white or cream. (also stock should be plainish)

Black/blue jacket best and yes your patey is fine. Make sure you have gloves. I always go for black as white just show up hands far too much!!

But as you said you can get away with quite alot!!!
 
Fi the local classes you do are run by a Riding Club or certain equestrain centres, you may need to wear a hat to RClub safety specifiations with a harness.
 
I know when I've stewarded at our local dressage we've not allowed beaglers (if that's what a Patey is...?). We only allow hats with harnesses and conforming to safety standards.
Would be a good idea for you to have a 'backup hat' in case you're Patey isn't allowed.
 
Re hats:

I haven't got the latest BD rules -but i have done a couple of local RC tests recently - and hats all have to have harnesses fitted there. I know that BD has always been a hat on a head - and they recommend you use up to standard, but it isn't compulsory.

I'm sure someone with the latest rules can check up on this.

With dress deffo dark colour gloves - and I prefer a black jacket. It is usual to see a white saddle cloth - but that isn't compulsory - just the norm!

And absolutely no boots on your horse - no grakles, but flashes are allowed. Whips and spurs are permitted, but it might be best to check your snaffle is ok with BD rules.
