Trying to plan a dressage outing before Js first event, found one fairly locally, option of doing prelim 16, 17 or novice 28.

I havent got a copy of prelim 16 for some reason, is it in a short or long arena? Dont fancy prelim 17 as is a long arena and looks quite complicated for J. Actually prefer the look of novice 28!

What do you think? Help!

P16 is in a 20x60.

It has 15m circles, 20m circles, canter transitions over centre line. Looks ok

I did P17 last year and got 62.1% so it can't be that bad LOL. The arena is huge and I had a horrible mental block going round but it was ok.

Get someone to call it and do them both

16 is slightly nicer than 17, but I dislike both 16 and 17 as I found they were far too busy for a) my nutcase mare who liked simple, symmetrical tests (her best one was 4) and b) myself who just can't remember it all!
I've never seen 28 so can't comment on that!

I don't have N28 either. Must get it!
I have a big folder with them all organised alongside all my score sheets since I was about 16 (some of them are so bad!) - am a big geek

I was doing my entry form for the regionals the other day and I didn't like the look of Prelim 17 either... So I'll be doing Novice 21 (which is technically Novice 28 now, but only a few movements are different) which IMO looks a lot nicer as well as Prelim 7...

Novice 28 is easy to remember, you just need to practise few strides of counter canter in your 15 metre turn back. Was advised to start this as near to end of long side as possible to make the angle easier ( if this makes sense) As my boy was doing flying change, I changed to trot a little early, as on the left rein this is quickly followed by lengthened strides, also difficult for my chap. I managed it OK without really being Novice standard yet, just collect the trot as much as possible before and after lengthening so as to show a difference. Of course, your horsey may already be good at these movements! The only change to this and old Novice 21 is at the end - walk not trot up the centre line and halt at X.

Well if 21 is the same/ similar to 28, I like it! I'm sure that was the one I rode on my friend's horse, onlyu been riding her a few months, totally over-horsed really, and came 6th (so I definately like it!!)
