Its a little hard to tell as the pics are at funny angles, but she looks to have a similar way of going to my mare, and I get told that she looks on the forehand.

I am trying to keep my position v upright with shoulders back, not let hands drop at all, plenty of transitions and hoping that as her flatwork becomes more established, she will work more from behind.

Apologies if this doesn't seem relevant, but I am seeing similarities in your pics and in mine.

I hope you get other replies as well.

Hi
looks like a nice horse, but needs to work with more engagement of hind legs and lighten the forehand. Try lots of transitions and transitions within paces (e.g. working canter to collected etc).

It isnt easy from the pics but it would appear that in both trot and canter the horse isnt stepping through from behind and the hocks are trailing.

Transitions can often help and when in this position I find that leg yielding can also be useful. I wonder if you are restraining him too much with the hand and not allowing him to come through but it is always difficult with a still pic to see the whole picture.

He looks like a sweetie x

Yup i feel your all saying what im thinking, his flat work has only just really been started in the last year, but its trying to get him to step through from behind, i need to get better pics ? anything else bar transitions that could help him step through ?

He is doing well though !

His canter has come along way, but he still has that TB unbalanced .....

I looked at these earlier and couldn't make up my mind, because each is just a moment in time and they could all be bad ones. the second picture is the most positive for me, but I would agree with those who have commented on the heavy forehand and trailing hindquarters as they appear in these photos.

if I was in that school I would have been shouting at the rider to sit up straight and pick up their hands too, which might have helped the horse to shift the balance back

I would agree with the other posts that he doesn't look very engaged and could do with going a bit more forward - looks a tad behind the leg but again that just might be the pic. Don't know what he has been like to school so far but my last TB was quite whizzy and I fell in to the trap of letting him pootle along as I was consciously slowing him down all the time! When I had some lessosn from a top dressage trainer he said working trot - call that a working trot - fired me up through the gears got the horse going way more powerfully - then told me what I had was a working trot!
Looks like he has a nice demeanor though and am sure you are making great progress.

Yep i find im always slowing him down with my seat, and my trot is steady when really it should be up a gear !

the horse appears to be on the forehand it needs to work more engaged and up hill, but the riders position could hinder the horse from working up hill, by the rider itself being on their fork and tilting forwards, the hind leg looks as if it needs to be more active,

could be totally wrong on this as the pictures arent particularly clear and this is only my interpretation

I agree with the_winter, try to make an effort to sit up and raise your hands (so much so that you feel you are actually leaning back) This is a battle I have constantly with my naturally 'tipped' position, it has made a huge difference to my boy (a huge exish racehorse) he is now doing some fantastic engaged work and looks so much more impressive, just by lightening the front end.
Good luck its a long hard road, but the rewards are huge!
I mean the_watcher (she has changed her name back
