Dressage points - aquiring them?

Hello, just wondered if you Dressage riders out there could help me out on a pretty basic question! In affilliated Dressage how do you acquire points - eg - do you get so many points for each placing ie - 1st, 2nd, etc. or do you get them if you score over a certain percentage?

basically it's the percentage that counts, not the placing.
