Gyp and I went to our first dressage comp yesterday. It was the first time Gyp has ever been ridden in a comp. He was brilliant.
We got there far to early so left Gyp munching some hay while we caught up on some sleep for 10mins!
Then got on and went in to warm up. There was another coloured cob (gelding) there just like my mare Hattie so Gyp had to neigh everytime he passed.
Gyp has never been ridden with any other horses but Hattie but didn't even do his normal head flip, he just did as I asked and didn't really worry about any of the others. Even when some of the others were spooking and being naughty.
At one point there were 6 other horses in the warm up with me and one person was using Gyp as their crash barrier
even though I had a green ribbon in so I left the warm up arena and walked him about outside.
We then went in the the indoor arena for the test. He has never been indoors but lives in a barn so I didn't think going in would be a problem. He stopped to talk to the judge in their hut fine and then started the test really well. He was looking at the walls the whole time as they had blocks and poles on the side, so I got marked down for that. But we completed the test with no mistakes or naughtiness which I think was bloody brilliant.
In the end I think we came about 8th out of 15 so I was very very pleased with him and have decided he can go to another one.
One comment the judge wrote was:
'You ride very much on your forehand'. My boss/intructor didn't understand this. We guess she means Gyp was on the forehand, but I obviously didn't try to ride him like it.
