I've had my boy on loan since the end of May - he had just turned 6 the week before I got him, and had really done next to nothing with his owner. He is very different to the TBs I had before, as a cob x type, so I was really unsure when I took him on.....I started out thinking I wanted to event him, but as always with me the flatwork got addictive and I began to realise what a superstar I had
When he came he couldn't canter at all in a school, and although he was tremendously willing with a fabulous attitude he clearly had a long way to go. A couple of months ago, inspired by Milliepops' approach and thoughts, I decided to focus on my flatwork training; I have moved to weekly lessons, and am concentrating on really establishing the basics before we try and move on. We had a small blip when he became less willing, which was overcome by a visit from my fabulous physio and lots and lots of pole work, and now we are moving forward again. I am competing once a month simply to see how we are progressing, and today we achieved 2nd place in our Intro B test - frustratingly 1.5 marks short of winning the class! - and got a respectable 63% in Prelim 7
We are still only getting 5.5's for our canter so I know we have a lot of work to go, but he is an absolute delight to ride and I just love him....I'm desperately trying to persuade his owner she wants to sell him to me.... but had to share how delighted I am with him and how proud I am that we are improving every time out. No photos from today unfortunately as my other half has a Samsung which refused to focus for the video, but even so I can see some lovely (blurred!) work in the video and am over the moon tonight
