Dressage rider groups - help :o)

How do you know when your rider group changes?

When I affiliated I was group 8 because I had never done an affiliated class before... however, having had a quick flick through my book it seems that once you have a point at novice level you become a group 7 rider.

Is this right? If so, is there anyone you have to inform as my membership card has group 8 on it.

Oh right, mine does...

So because Grace got two points at Novice does this now mean I am a group 7 rider? (I know I am probably seeming very blonde, but there is so much to take in when you read the rule book

Yes it does, the second you get a point you are classed as a group seven rider, this does not change anything in the way of rules so they won't issue you with a new card until renewal when it will then say your new group number. However if you move up from group 8 to group 4 say, they will send you out a new card as it means you cannot compete in some classes.
 
they used to - i got sent a new one saying 'congratulations you are now rider group 6'

But that was over a year ago now so they might not do it anymore.

I got one when I moved up to group 6 this year but cant remember getting one when I was a group 7 rider. It took a while for it to come through.
 
you don't get a new one if you move from group 8 to group 7 but you may if you move from group 8 to group 6. If you are bothered about it, ring them up and they will send you out a new card.

i know how it feels not to be at bottom of pile, it's so nice putting 7 instead of 8, now would really like 6 but think that a bit of time away

Right, I have been doing dressage now for two years on Hannah before she was put in foal and 9 months on Grace... I am sure in 10 years time I might just be reaching that group 4 level

Damn my parents for not buying me a pony when I was younger, the cruel buggers made me wait until I was 18! But it was the best Christmas present they could ever have given me... the waiting was worth while

GRADING OF RIDERS
Riders will be graded in the following 8 groups:-
GROUP 1
Riders who have competed CDI or CDIO outside the UK or Big tour in
a CDIO in the UK. Riders who were Group 1 riders before February
1st 2005 may apply to revert to Group 2 after 4 years have elapsed.
GROUP 2
Riders who have competed in a big or small tour in a CDI in the UK
and/or gained points at Inter I and above in National Classes (except
Group 1)
GROUP 3
Riders who have won point(s) at Advanced level and PSG(including
FEI Young Rider classes) after 1 April 1994 (except Groups 1 & 2).
GROUP 4
Riders who have won point(s) at Advanced Medium level (including
FEI Junior classes) after 1 April 1994 (except Groups 1-3).
GROUP 5
Riders who have won point(s) at Medium level (including FEI Pony
classes) after 1 April 1994 (except Groups 1-4).
GROUP 6
Riders who have won point(s) at Elementary level after 1 April 1994
(except Groups 1-5).
GROUP 7
Riders who have won point(s) at Novice level after 1 April 1994
(except Groups 1-6).
GROUP 8
All other riders.

There is also a 2a coming in from Dec 1st.

One day I may reach the dizzy heights of group 7... I'm with the odd bods in group 8 (if I even qualify for that - hehe)!!! Can't wait to go affiliated!

I don't blame you, it is a great feeling. As Finn will tell you we were both amazed to become group 6 riders, as it really wasn't part of our plans.
