I hate reading about accidents and injuries people have sustained from riding, and I was sad to hear Courtney King Dye has got head injuries from a fall while schooling a clients horse. I was wondering, as it doesn't say in the article if she was wearing a hat or not?

Hmm, hadn't even thought about that as I always assume that people do. Poor lady, as it said in the article we are all vunerable around horses.

I don't think it says whether or not she had a hat. But lots of dressage riders don't wear hats. It is as easy to get seriously injured riding a dressage horse as any other.

I don't think she was wearing a hat...but now a lot of dressage riders are wearing hats and some are wearing hard hats rather than top hats for competitions.

I fractured my skull in 1995..and I WAS wearing a hat. I don't think it takes a genius to work out the consequences if I wasn't wearing one! I would NEVER ride without one, rant at anybody I see not wearing one, and when I worked for an international dressage rider, I was laughed at as I insisted on wearing my hat.

It doesn't matter what you look like, safety has to be the priority. The results of the H&H poll are interesting - currently only 72% think wearing a hat should be compulsory, and 11% have voted 'no it's my hear and I'll decide' - selfish I say - on family and friends who'd have to care for or grieve for the consequences, and on the health services that could be utilised elsewhere. Unless of course, they have a death wish.

Makes me angry!! :mad::mad::mad:
