I currently have a lovely old Serge lined Kay Humphries dressage saddle which is in good nick. But is not longer fitting my mare. What other saddles when second hand are good for competing in- i.e not Wintec as I dont beleive they let you get close eough to the horse. My budget will depend on what I can get for this Kay Humphries saddle. MAny thanks

shadowmonkey, you do realise that if you send it to Barry Swain (or get Kay to take it) with a wither pattern, it can have the tree or flocking adjusted to fit a wither pattern for your mare. if you like it, get it altered. i've just taken a few to Barry and he did them very cheaply. PM me if you want. they really are the best thing for horse's backs imho.
otherwise, i might buy it off you, depends which model it is, i'm collecting them at the moment... bought 3 off ebay this week, one for a friend, 2 for me! PM if you have an idea what you want for it, or otherwise stick it on ebay!

Really? I wasnt aware of this! I'll have to see how much it would cost... and weather it is worth it. are these saddles expensive- mine is a bout 5 years old I think so not sure of its value anymore.

I wanted Cat's Barry Swain jumping saddle altered to fit Adrian. The gullet was too narrow, but Barry really didn't behave as if he wanted to do the work. He told my saddler 4 day turnaround, & when she rang a week later, was horribly rude to her, laughed & said he'd lied about the timescales & it eventually took a month to get my saddle back. In the meantime I'd had to do 2 jumping lessons with my new 4 yo horse in my dr saddle, which is just what you want to do. After Cat being so ill & then dying, I was totally bursting to get jumping again & have a new start, but the whole saddle thing & his nasty attitude really soured it.

And then £100 to £200 later, the saddle didn't fit still, so I sold it in disgust on e bay & got a WOW. Would never get another Barry Swain saddle & would rather ride bareback.

Barry is a funny old thing, some days he'll do anything for you, others he's not in a good mood and it's better to leave him be. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with him, catembi.
Shadowmonkey, if you can take the saddle to them, they'll do it immediately, i've had lots done like this, for about £25 each to alter tree and flocking. A total reflock takes longer and costs more, obv.
I've also sent one in the post once, and it took ages and then arrived back a much worse fit than when it went, so i had to take it there again in person to get it done properly (no charge).
but i still think they're the best thing for horses' backs, so i persevere... it's worth it!
