Okay, I need help! I've been searching high and low for a second hand dressage saddle for my rather wide welshie! She's a solid built 15.1hh. My saddler told me she is wide-extra wide. I bought on Ebay a fabby Stirlingshire WH saddle for showing/hacking in x-wide and it was squeezed to fit. It's now pretty well a made to measure saddle. Stirlingshire saddles are made by Ideal, so I have been looking at the Ideal dressage saddles. I've been using the wh saddle for dressage and that's not so bad, but she has a tendancy to pull me out the front door when she's cantering on the forehand (which is every time at canter, at the moment).

My saddler came out again and let me try a Passier - which was rather nice but the price tag a bit out of my budget. She phoned me to tell me that an Ideal Jessica is in on consignment -- so I tried that today but I'm not convinced it fits - it's a wide fit and I think it may be just a bit restrictive of the shoulder.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for similar quality dressage saddles for this type of horse?

Thanks

Not sure it's any help but my part-Welsh cob is in a Fhoenix treeless dressage saddle as I just couldn't find anything wide enough for his shoulders.

It looks like a 'proper' saddle and I see quite a few out at dressage now.

My saddler has a Wintec Isabelle and a Collegiate kickin around for me to try - so will have a go with those. I really like hte ideal Jessica , but the wide I picked up is just too narrow in the shoulder for my girl - it's fine at the cantle but she's a big girlie and it was just restricting the movement. I probably need ot do like I did with the WH saddle, buy an extra wide and squeeze it to fit!

My very round section D has an Ideal (not a Jessica, but can't remember what it is) and it is fab....can't recommend it enough! Ideal will make you one to fit if necessary. Tried an Isabel and it absolutely creased me.

I have a Ryder dressage saddle for my 14.3 section D. He is a chunky lad but not huge and the wide fit is perfect for him. I got it as an ex-demonstator off ebay for an absolute bargin (with the thought that if it didn't fit I would just re-sell) as its not a really well known make. The guy I got it off sells them quite regularly and it was in perfect condition apart for 2 v small scratches which the seller told me about. My saddle fitter loves the saddle and so does everyone on my yard. I have ridden in both an Albion and an Ideal Jessica and this is much more comfortable (for me!) and I think better quality (saddler also agrees with me). As you can tell I am really chuffed with it and can wholly recommend. They have a website;

Good luck, it took me ages to find something my my boy XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Thanks - just checked out the link - looks lovely. Do you know what type dsg saddle you ended up with? The first one (made for Freisian) looks like what I think my fight my girls bod.
