I started to do some dressage last summer and really liked it so would like to do more this year. I have a lovely GP saddle but i want a dressage saddle as well. I only want a really cheap one preferably synthetic. Does anyone have one?, if so what are they like to do dressage in. What are your suggestions of what i should buy? Thanks!

Wintec isabell is supposed to be quite nice

Yes!!!!
I'm selling a wintec pro dressage that comes with medium & medium wide gullet!!! Its really comfortable . I'm only selling it as i have an irish draught whos far too wide for it!! Big round lump!! Its in good condition, not used much.

i know someone that started on a wintec 500 dressage, and now is on a wintec isabell, and she liked them both.
i have heard bad comments about the isabell saying that it fixes your position and restricts movement, but i suppose its peronal taste.
the wintecs do have a generally good reputation, and very good value for money

Steer clear of Wintecs then - they definitely wont fit, nor will the Isabelle Werth.

I would look at a thorowgood or a even a second hand saddle company - half leather versions can be picked up quite cheap on ebay and then adjusted to fit.

I have several dressage saddles and by far my most comfortable for putting the rider in a good dressage position is the Wintec Isabell Werth, from experience most of the other synthetic dressage models don't come anywhere near the Isabell Werth for fit, comfort and respect. If I have a pupil that is struggling with position I put it on their horse for them to have a lesson with me in it and the difference is 9/10 dramatical. I have several gullets that I change to suit each horse and use different knee blocks too. As for a horse with no wither, not a problem, I have an advanced dressage horse that I use it on with no wither and rather rotund barrel which fits him the best out of my keiffer, Wow & frank baines.

The stirrup bars are set back quite a lot from a normal saddle (I think from memory it is 5cms difference). If the rider is used to riding in a GP saddle then they will find the difference quite dramatic.

Yes, the gullets can be changed but the tree remains the same shape - the saddle is not truly adjustable. I do not think they suit flat backed horses with no withers.

But I agree, on a horse that it fits, the Isabelle Werth is a nice saddle. I always ride in a dressage so I dont find the stirrup bar placement a problem but I know a lot of people can find it a bit extreme. Of course now I dont ride in anything other than my Saddle Co dressage!

Have a look at the Thorowgood cob range - they will fit your horse a lot better.
