I am looking at buying a dressage saddle in the future, My horse is a wide fitting, I was talking to my saddler about Ideal saddles and she said that the Jessica is better for wider horses than the Susannah.

This has got me thinking as I quite like the Albion saddles but wondered if they fit well in the wider sizes or are more suited to narrower horses?

Hello
If you are looking down the line of a jessica ...yet have the albion in mind
If you are looking for a wider fitting saddle have a look at the El Caballo De Espana saddles.
It is a new range that is being brought out ...they are made by the Ideal Saddle company for El Caballo
I had one of the first and it is amazing ...mine fits a VERY wide horse and has memory foam panels .... comfy for both me and my horsie... If you want info PM me and I can give you their details.

Ty for that, guess my OP is slightly confusing. Been looking at lots of different saddles. I like the Ideal ones but also like the Albion ones. Just wanted to know if the Albions fit wide horses well

Tumbleweed move over!!
Have a mare that needs a wide fit saddle. Have tried an Abion K2 which was a great fit but too many pennies
I have been told by saddler, that as the Albion has a flatter tree, Ideal Jessica should fit and they are more afordable for me.
Hope this points you in the right direction??

Albion all the way best saddles in the world! Ridden in a Jessica just doesn't compare! The albions have a far better after sales as you will need to have them checked at least once a year as horses do change shape! I have had an SL Since 2001 originally fitted to pony then they changed the tree for me to fit my wide horse and fitted perfectly now i have a pony again and currently in process of getting it changed again! It still looks brand new and i do everything in it and hardly only clean it when i have to!!! :-) I love it, worth spending the extra money K xxx

i hate albions! sorry but i thought it was a awful fit on my medium wide hanovarian mare!!! as were stubbens! i opted for a kiefer carbon fibre treed saddle in the end and i love it!

Pretty sure the only saddle company that do carbon fibre trees are Barnsby, but the kieffer are flexible and have a plastic tree so they can be adjusted.

To the OP, Dressage saddles are SO personal, I personally find the Jessica too wide for me and have an albion for my boy, but it doesnt really support me properly so is being sold. However, some of the ideal dressage saddles are narrower in the twist, and are beautifully made. Have a play in a few, as I think you will find an ideal saddle that you like as much as the Albions

Thank you

Will just have to try a few. I just wanted to be able to rule out saddles if they are not a good fit in the wider sizes

KatB - no this is a carbon fibre one, it widenswithin 2 minutes of you riding in it and moulds itself around the horses scapular.

i have ridden in so many albions, they are a name, but i dont like them. harry dabbs make nice saddles. becareful of WOW saddles though...

I agree 110% with Black_horse albion dressage saddles are appalling. Complete waste of money.

Harry Dabbs, Ideal, amerigo and Hennig I think are great

i have ridden in passier, kiefer, stubben, albion, harry dabbs, wintec, black country, ideal, WOW and a custom made one.

obviously each horse needs to be judged as an individual, my mare is very sensitive backed and i need added support due to injury so i likes the knee rolls on my kiefer kline (sp?) dressage saddle. becareful you dont get drawn into the marketing magic and spin when looking at the saddles. i have had my kiefer reflocked with real sheeps wool as they naturally come with synthetic fibre wool. Sheeps wool gives me extra support through the seat. also, kiefer saddles are flocked by machine so make sure you check the panels underneath for any lumps. a saddler will need to deflock then reflock your saddle to rectify this, its not as simple as hitting the lump with a rubber mallet.

No the Kieffers trees are not made from Carbon Fibre. Sorry, I had to look it up as Saddles are of great interest to me, and if it had been carbon fibre it would be incredibly lightweight and close contact, which is what i want for my horse, but it is as I expected and effectively a plastic (reinforced with fibre glass) tree. SOme horses love them, but with others, they can create a "clothes peg" action around the withers and pinch. All the info is here

Kieffer trees
Glad they suit your horse though

and as it was the cheapest of the ones i was looking at £1200 second hand, i was happy, otherwise i would have spent almost £3000 on a brand new one! :O
