Please can you recomend a dressage saddle for me and my boy, will get a saddler out but not sure what to look at. I love Albions. Myt boy is a 15.2 ISH but looks very cobby so need a make good for him really. (must be 17.5 no bigger because of his back/ribs)

ideas please

I have a Lovatt & Ricketts dressage saddle and I love it

I love my Jessica too! I've got an ISH who is quite round across his back and the wide Jessica is fab on him. The saddler has been today to check it as I've had it 6 months now, and he was saying that Ideal are in his opinion one of the best makes. I also think they are very good value for money.

i too have a jessica and love it, not too expensive for a 2nd saddle and fits me and my horse really well, very comfy too

All 4 of my horses are in Ideals, although different models. My beasties are all very different types so there is something for every shape.Try Liz from Mill saddlery as she has a good range and is an excellent saddle fitter. She is in Suffolk but I am sure you wouldn't be too far away

I like Amerigo's as they have plenty of options re back shape. For the same reasons I also like WOW. Amerigo's are expensive but I can honestly say its the best dressage saddle I have ever sat in

Another Jessica fan here !
I use a medium 17.5 on an awkward to fit warm-blood and it didnt even need adjusting.
It suits us both it fits him and I feel very secure in it.

Ideal Jessica is quite wide through the twist which I personally do not like. I prefer saddles that have narrower twists (but then I do have a hip problem), Ideal have some other dressage saddles that are nicer to sit on in my opinion. I love my Albion SLK but it is quite a lot of saddle.

Your best bet is to get the saddler to decide what fits your horse and then sit on as many as possible to decide what suits you.

When I was considering buying a dressage saddle for my Trakehner x Anglo Arab, who is quite narrow and compact, I tried an Ideal and a Spalding. The Ideal fitted her perfectly, but the Spalding was too big all round for her little back.

Unfortunately, instead of being sensible and buying the Ideal, I somehow ended up buying the Spalding and the horse who it belonged to!

It is the most comfortable saddle I have ever sat on, but they don't suit every horse's shape. I would definitely recommend an Ideal for a smaller horse, and they are great value for money too
