Looking at an albion legend 5000 dressage saddle for my rounded mare - she is probably around a M-W width, i was advised a straight v=cut saddle would be good for her shape but im not sure about the lack of knee rolls in front as i have long legs so thought a dressage saddle would be better suited as theres more in front but still straight cut for mares shape.
Does anyone have an albion? what are they like? comfortable??

I have an albiOn platinum dressage saddle it is the most comfy saddle I have ridden in. I am a bit of an albiOn fan as I also have a kontact jumping saddle. So maybe a little biased. My boy moves beautifully in both

M-W??? for a rounded cob??? albion sizes come up quite small anyway. I would look more towards Balance, WOW or LV saddles tbh.

I have a leg 5000 (from the 1st time round) and it is my fave saddle ever... it's literally the best saddle I've ever ridden in and it is a good match with a cob.... it fits my hairy now and was originally bought for a 16hh sec D...

Seriously I danced round the yard when my saddler told me he could fit it to my new boy...

I'm an albion fan (can not get on with amerigo) and have an SLK, an SL (for different horses over the years) and have just bought a K2 GP saddle so I love albion mainly cos they fit my bum... but the legend 5000 although definitely not the most expensive is definitely my favourite.

I'd give it a go and see how you get on with it.

Width has never been a problem my lad is an 06 sizing and they go really wide... also they will make you a saddle but I've never struggled to fit an albion to a cob they sit on the one's I've had really well... better than a Kent and Masters, WOW or GFS anyway...

Albion fit this...

I have a M-W Albion Platinum Ultima dressage saddle for my warmblood x welsh D. I bought it in March and its the comfiest saddle I've ever sat in.

Well shes more of a cob type - she has no whithers, flat backed and quite rounded (enough for a saddle to slip about) but not huge?!

Have tried on a few saddles and as she is changing shape (shes still young) and lost a bit of fat her current wide fit is too wide on her.

I went for the Isabella Werth New Dressage Saddle for my flat backed cob. I find he put's weight on his shoulders, so this means that I can adjust the saddle fairly easily between the Medium and Medium Wide depending on how fit/fat he is.

Also, the new Isabella's have bigger pads and a wider gullet which I think is good for cob types.

Finally, if you subsequently find something even better, then they hold a good second hand value and are easy to move on.

Look at Balance International (as someone has previously suggested) - lovely, horse-friendly saddles with a padding system that you can adjust (yourself!) if they do change shape.

Horse hound and Rider Duckingfield do great straight cut saddles for cobs with extra wide trees. I had 3 saddle fitters to my flat backed cob and none of them could fit saddles to accomodate his 'largness'!

I met a lovely lady with a shire a few weeks ago and her saddle had an adjustable tree. I had heard about adjustable gullets but not trees but was advised that changing the gullet won't fix the fit unless the tree's already the right shape or size. I dont know if this is correct but if the horse is flat backed it would make sense that the tree and gullet need to be wider not just the gullet?

Sorry C&B, don't mean to sound rude. How big is your girl? If saddle slipping, sounds as if saddle is too narrow... how wide is current gullet and how big are your panels? A well fitting saddle shouldn't slip even if horse is a barrel.

To go narrower may not solve your problem, but finding a saddle with better balance might without adjusting the whither size.

I have a 15.3 clydie x who is slim and needs a x-w
