Thinking about getting my first dressage saddle and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. Price range is really £700. could stretch more but only if have to.

I have heard ideal saddles are good, i tried the jessica and it was nice but not for me but i have heard really good things about them, what about ebay- i have heard also that you can sometimes get cheaper new saddles on there

Ideal dressage saddles are supposed to be very nice. I also like the Bates Caprilli Dressage saddle. I have the Wintec 500 Dressage saddle and like it very much, but it is synthetic, I'd much prefer to have a Bates as i love my Bates GP.

If i had any saddle though it would always be either a Heather Moffett Fhoenix or a WOW.

albions but you won't get one new for your budget but you could get a decent 2nd hand one!

in all seriousness though you need to get a saddle that suits you and your horse. find a good saddler with a load of 2nd hand saddles and try them

My Heather Moffatt treed saddle was £700 made to measure but that was cos they got the price wrong cos it was a new product!! Should have been £800. Fab saddle, half synthetic. Hope mine can be persuaded to fit my new horse!!

Ideal are of course the best choice!!! www.idealsaddle.com I am bound to say this as i work for them!! For your money it would be worth trying to find a good second hand one, or if you can stretch the RRP for brand new Jessica is only £880..... but of course it would be best to get a saddle fitter out to ensure you get a saddle that fits both you and your horse. I can recomend someone in your area if you let me know your location if you'd like.......

my Ideal was just under £1000 and i had it professionaly fitted. I love it and it was definately the nicest saddle in that price range by far. I also prefer it to my albion

Which Ideal have you got PG, I will probably need another saddle by the end of the year as she is muscling up so much and I know I won't be able to afford a new albion.

I have a nearly new Kieffer with Flair that needs a new home, well within your price range.

The advantage with a Kieffer is that the tree can be heat moulded to suit most widths by a trained saddler.

PM me if you would like to talk about it.

I recently bought a second hand Passier Grand Gilbert for £700, and it's the best saddle I've ever ridden in, much better than the top of the range Albion I bought brand new a couple of years ago.

If I were you, I would go to a really good saddler with lots of choice, try a whole load, even the £1600 ones, then decide which one you like, and shop around for one second hand.

bit naughty, but hey ho, you still have to pay them for their time, and they might even have a second hand one themselves.

i have an ideal jessica and love it! i paid £750 for it and was a new second hand. make sure u have it fitted though as some horses don't suit certain saddles if u know what i mean.

i have a frank baines. it is so comfortable. make sure you do get it professionally fitted. it took me 2 hours just to get the right saddle. also if you get it fitted at whom ever you go to, you can try it out and try loads of saddles to find the right one for you not just your horse.
