hi
Was just wondering if in BD prelim tests you can do the trot work sitting or rising depending on how your horse goes.

And if you can change if you sit or rise diring the test.

Thank you!

I could be wrong but can't you doing rising trot up to elementry now. As I understand things, some judges (not all) would rather see rising trot in prelim, as sitting trot would suggest your horse is more advanced.

Though I could be wrong.

Whichever you do you have to do all the way through (apart from in lengthened strides where you can rise if yuo're sitting). After Ele its sitting for everything.

I'm not sure you do have to maintain your choice of sitting or rising. I usually rise for some bits like trotting large circles or down long sides and often sit for smaller movements or where another transition follows on within a few markers. Never had it marked down, in fact would say judges often give me a better ride mark when I mix and match. Definitely wouldn't sit for entire test at prelim don't think most judges would like it.

Quite right rubyred, the choice is yours and you can mix and match.

I quite often do the same at the lower level tests. If your sitting trot is good and the horse goes as well if not better than when you rise then there is no reason not to do sitting trot at Prelim if you prefer. However, so often, the rider does not sit softly, causing the horse to tighten through the back, making the whole problem a lot worse, in which caes I would advise rising every time!
