Ive been saying for a few years I was going to give the dressage to music a go at the areas but this year shall be the year (the one we will be doing will be elementary level :)

So, I am completely clueless where to start. So far I know I have to get a BD music membership sorted out and to do a walk trot canter video in order to sit and see what music matches up.... George isnt the biggest of movers but is very clockwork/consistent so I was thinking of going for something cutesy rather than big and atmospheric.

a few questions:

Where is the best place to start looking for music? Finding decent instrumentals is quite tricky. Are there any do's or donts for choosing a particular sort of music?

How do you go about actually mixing it altogether? What computer programme do people use? Im fairly computer literate but have never edited/mixed music before...

Im sure I'll think of more!

I just got mine done for the first time I had an instructor come and draw me a floorplan and then had someone video it, I uploaded it to YouTube and had equivisions do the music. They really understood what I wanted and the finished product was so much more amazing than I ever imagined!

I managed to very basically put my own together. I was able to download software that gave you a free trial period & I downloaded the music off Amazon. The software I used was called Wavepad although this was a couple of years ago.

The best advise I had was to choose a theme & choose music that I liked it will need to be listened to it a lot! The other thing is never to use Karaoke versions of songs as they don't have the same beat through them.

Good luck it's quite fun when you get it all together but I did spend a great deal of time swearing at my computer editing my music.

Hi GG
Ive done it. As Joss says its very time consuming and frustrating so leave plenty of time before your competition.
I downloaded Audacity as it will allow you to cut and paste music and speed up/slow down the tempo.
Video paces and find out the tempo for all 3. Iphone has an app that will give you a metronome if that's easier but I just counted steps per minute and then tested my music against the video.
Finding music is so hard. There are some sites including JOG FM that list music by their beats per minute but otherwise you just have to listen to loads and test if they meet your requirements (cue hours of listening to naff music!!).
I now need music for my other horse but Im going to try to adapt what I already have. good luck
