Have you done DtM and what are your song choices? Do you go with something contemporary or go classical (as is so often used).

Doing one on a friends horse this winter and suggested Comfortably Numb and she was like 'no way'. I think it's quite a fun song with a decent 4-beat rhythm. I sometimes drive along to Radio1 and think some would be good songs but I never see anyone choose something really erm, modern. It's usually something 'classic' and a bit sad.

Do judges only really like crappy old songs?

Inspire me please... :) xx

I was at Hickstead this summer and someone was doing a test with Lady Gaga in the background, along with lots of modern dance music, it sounded fab, all very up-tempo and really suited the horse's natural energy and expression, they got pretty good marks for it to. :D

I recently watched an unaffiliated dressage to music and thought the more modern poppy songs were the best. The younger entrants used things like songs from Oliver and songs from the charts. They were just more entertaining. The older entrants used the more classical tunes and just didnt seem to have the pzazz of the younger entries.

I think it depends on the judge and what they like but if the tempo suits your horse I dont think it should matter. If you are doing affiliated though I think they would prefer the more classical stuff. I think judges also look for something different rather than the usual choices of, say, Elvis and James Bond themes. Could you get Comfortably Numb music without the lyrics perhaps or how about a bit of Shirley Bassey's Big Spender !

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I once did a test to 'When I'm cleaning windows' by two in a tent..........brilliant and there were lots of laughs!!....... from me and the observers :-)

My fave dtm I've ever seen was in the Kur at the nationals I can't remember the horse or rider but they came down the centre line doing one time changes to 'I've got no strings' from Pinocchio(Sp?)... It was genius!!

We're not THAT good unfortunately but will take note for when we are... :D

There is a really good dressage to music website with a database of music suitable for dressage . [SPAM URL]. There are mp3 links so you can listen to the songs. They also have lot's of videos on there and if you click the youtube link you can see some of their floor plans and the music they have used. They use really modern music, there is even some rap music! they offer a music editing and mixing service too, but there is lots of free advice on it too so definitely worth a visit.

Cool, thank you very much, I never knew that exsited.

I'm feeling more inspired now and Leisel, it is hard to get that without lyrics but good suggestion, am going to give it a go...

I don't know the name of the song/artist, but there is one that goes "What's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster?".................would suit one of mine down to the ground! :)
