We are thinking of doing some dressage to music with my mare this winter. Has anyone bought software that allows you to create you own tapes, or is it better to go to a professional. Any ideas of software, companies that do it for you etc would be very much appreciated. I did see dressage divas CD but it had a bad review on Amazon (only one review though) but also we want to compete starting at medium and it seemed to just be up to elementary

I don’t know if this is off any help as I don’t know where abouts you are in the country but these guys put my music together www.fgstud.co.uk
Daniel Watson helped me pick the music (I did a dressage to music clinic) and then Alex Wyatt put the CD together, he charged me £20. Don’t know what software he used but I was very impressed.

There's plenty of software out there for this.

I use an American programme called Mixmeister which is really for DJ's etc making dance/club mixes etc but it works well and is easy enough for total technophobe like me to use.

It was recommended to me by Freestyler and I think THE_carthorse has also used it.

Other software I've heard people use is Sony Soundforge and Audacity. Audacity, I think, is a free download.

Fab - thanks for the advice.

I have a floorplan and music - its just putting it together really. Mixmeiser looks good but scarey! Its nice you can have a free trial too. Think we will give that a go!

Honestly, Mixmeister is easy to use and is terrific as you can change the BPM to suit your horse's paces. Only cost around £25 to buy.

Watch though as you can come addicted to DTM

DTM is VERY addictive, you will find yourself browsing all the shops looking for music now. I have over 9000 on my Ipod

All the software mentioned above have their pros and cons, so I wrote my own software, very straight forward and simple but it does the job perfectly (already for 20 years), and the quality of the music is SUPER.

However if I should have to default to industry software I should go for Audacity.

The most important thing is however to work with the original WAV-files and not the compressed MP3 files.

Fab replies everyone!!!! Do you know whether with Audacity or Mixmeister you can easily remove vocals and just leave the background music?

I don't know. I have never tried to do that, I did see a program advertised the other day that was solely for removing vocals. The only thing I find with music that has had the vocals removed i.e.. karaoke music, is that you do not get the real effect of the music, for most modern pop type music the vocals are a main contributor to the rhythm and beat of the piece.

I am constantly on the search for instrumental tributes to modern pop songs, the are not easy to find

That's a shame

This is not a pop song, not sure what you wold describe it. Think it was written in the 50's or 60's. It has long periods of just the instrumentals so I guess I would need to keep repeatuing those bits.

Send me a PM of what the piece is, and I will check if I have it as an instruments piece, you never know
