I don't know but it really is a personal choice. I have had three horses which I have had regular lessons on and three different instructors have worked out best for each different horse. So I would maybe try both and see what seems to suit.

I have not had a lesson with either but both do clinics at the same place each month. Both "names" and similar pricing. Both out competing. I guess I try both 🙂

I would do a few with both then decide I have used more than 1 instructor before now, 1 that I used very regularly and the other was just every few months worked well for me.

I don't think there is any harm asking whether anyone here has used either trainer by name.

Try both and see how you go!

Why not just ask if you can go and watch both trainers teach? Trainers have different teaching styles just as we all have different learning styles, so being able to watch a few lessons should give you a good idea of their teaching styles so you can decide who you think would suit you and your horse best.

I used to attend regular clinics with Harry (15+ years ago) through a local Riding Club. He’s got a good sense of humour but he was firm and pushed me, which is what I wanted from the lessons. I did once swear at him under my breath and he politely told me the headset worked two ways 🤣 At that time I was competing Novice/Ele. He was also good enough to spend time talking to a couple of his contacts when I was struggling to find rehab livery.

I’ve done a few riding holidays at Talland and Charlie was always friendly enough but I never had a session with him.

Will the venue let you go along and watch a few different lessons? Or as you say above, I’d book in with both and see how you get on.

I’ve used both.

I still train with Harry and have found his judging background very helpful. Plus he’s over this way regularly so much more consistent than when I used Charlie.

Happy to suggest other names depending on what area you’re in.

Thanks. I think turning up to watch would be useful but perhaps not fair to the riders. Not too worried about more suggestions, thanks tho, these 2 trainers are both at the lovely close venue which is ideal.
