Doing some work for college and I was just wondering peoples views on dressage vs Jump saddles. Do you use them as that is the discipline you do? Do you find your horse works better in one than the other? Or if you have both which do you prefer to ride in for general use? Thank you Laura. :)

Having recently bought a dressage saddle, I personally prefer a jumping saddle. My horse seems to go better in it too. So it was an expensive and unsuccessful experiment for me :)

I don't compete any more but I'll share my views anyway. Used to use a dressage saddle for flatwork & dressage, jump saddle for jumping. On mine, a jump saddle to hack too as we regularly found large & often inappropriate things to jump out hacking. I think dressage saddles are much better for anyone's position, especially a novices. I also ride very long after years of bareback as a child, so find a dressage saddle better goes with this. Most other horses I prefer to hack in dressage saddles too. If something plays up I want to be able to sit up.
Jump saddles are best to jump in but I find it odd riding in one without jump length stirrups, which aren't suited to either flatwork or a horse acting like a prat out hacking.
