I am doing my first prelim on horsey this weekend it's been a lot of work (circa 2years) to get him to this point.
So I don't mind how it goes asking as we both survive!!
But quick question about warm up- can you only ride in tack that is allowed in the test?
I have seen people ride in drawer reins before at warm ups but not sure what is allowed (I only want to put his martingale on for first 15mins warm up) if he is going to explode that will be when and I would like to control him!!
If it's not allowed I will just sit deep lol

Is it unaffiliated?

I've seen people warm up in draw reins too so presumably it's allowed.

And positive thoughts!!! You will be fine, enjoy it :D

You can only use the tack permitted for the test during the warm up, boots can be used but no other kit such as draw reins or martingales, you can use a neckstrap which gives you something to grab if need be.

That is assuming it is running under BD rules which most unaff does.

Yes it's unaff- I wouldn't want to make that much of a fool of myself to go affiliated!! Maybe next year lol thanks think I will just stick his hunter breastplate on then to give me my emergency handle!! And maybe trick him into thinking it's got the martingale on!! Haha

Never mind positive thoughts- just need to remember to breathe!!

Oo if it's possible to have someone else ride then I may ask my instructor to come along think she is coming to watch anyway!
Thanks guys I'll lunge him at home but it's a 45min trip to comp so may not benefit,
I'll pop my martingale attachment in trailer and ask the organisers on arrival!!
Thanks for your help

Except for Grade I and II Paradressage classes, at Summer, Winter, Music Regionals, Area
Festival and Championships, only the competitor may warm up the horse. Another rider
may exercise the horse on a long rein at walk under supervision of the steward or
marshal (who is to be notified). In all other competitions the horse may be warmed up
(including being competed in an earlier class) by another person."

It is a good read if you have some spare time before you comp. Although you should look up if your show has any other rule as I have seen "horse not to be ridden or lunged by anyone else than rider for test" at my local unaff.
Good luck :)

Thanks for that, seems a bit of a cop out though as having a trainer, for eg, warm up a horse can make a huge difference to the horse's performance in a test.

I would take it with you and explain possibility of explosion in the warm up. When doing unaff prelim/novice, most organisers that knew my horse ASKED me to keep it on for 15 mins or so!!!!! He is sadly gone now that particular horse and I have my first dressage outing tonight on my new one, no martingale yay!!!
