What do most people wear for dressage - just basic levels?

Is there anything considered "more proper" or what you'd expect to see? I know you can wear a tweed or a plain jacket but what is really the correct dress even though you are only doing say unaffiliated?

I have cream jods, black jod boots and leather gaiters, navy velvet hat... but -

Which jacket colour? Plain or hacking jacket?
Shirt colour?
Tie or stock?
Glove colour?
Accessories? I don't ride with a whip though I know you can...

I know as long as its a jacket and smart I'll be OK but would rather look right!

Oh and can you use a flash or only a cavesson?

I wear starting from top:

Charles Owen SJ2000 (saving for beagler) + hairnet
Cream stock with stock pin and stock shirt
Navy jacket
White breeches
Black boots with spurs
Long whip

Horse wears:

Kieffer Ulla Salgeber Double
KK Ultra Braddon and KK Conrad Weymouth (just KK Ultra snaffle if lower level)
Bridle number
Black dressage saddle and black leather girth
White or cram dressage square

With blue velvet hat you would be better with plain (not tweed) jacket.
Stock is better than tie (white or cream)
Glove colour depends on how still your hands are. If they are very still then wear white or cream/beige to highlight the fact. If they aren't then dark colours to hide them

I wear a tweed jacket and ordinary velvet hat, stock, shirt, cream jods. There are no hard and fast rules in dressage and you can wear just about any type of competition wear providing you dont breach BD rules.

When you move up the grades the 'custom' is for a black or blue jacket to be worn along with a Beagler. You also tend to see more cream or white gloves - avoided like the plague by the more novice because it highlights hand movements to the judge. Also a leaning towards white jods.

You can use a flash.

If you have a navy hat i would be looking to go in a plain navy jacket. Hacking jackets are ok but more for showing (if you want to be picky!)

Gloves are a must and should match the colour of your jods although i usually wear black but i have black jacket and hat.

Shirt should be white and stock is better than tie

You can wear spurs or carry a whip but neither are necessary if you dont need it.

Remember you will be judged on how your horse goes not what you look like (thats the showing coming out in you) so wear what she goes best in

Relax and enjoy it!!

I always use my tweed jacket as do not have a navy one. I am so fussy that I know it will cost me a packet to get one I like. I am also very incorrect as use a cream stock and a navy beagler and I have some mustard gloves but only because they are really nice and have a lovely feel.
I do not think it really matters as long as the impression overall is good. I would not go and spend any money on it unless you are really lacking some equipment.

i compete BD and wear the following:

Navy beagler
navy jacket
white stock shirt
white silk plain stock
white leather seated jods
black ariat boots with gaiters (made for me)
white gloves

you can use a flash/drop or cavesson noseband.

I wear a navy jacket, GPA hat as my SJ200 had died, white stock, beige breaches, long leather boots, spurs, whip.
Horse - Kate negus crank nose snaffle, myler - dressage legal bit, wintec dressage pro2000 and girth, white saddle cloth

PMSL!!! Have to say even doing local showing I hate looking out of place, even though its not me riding! Hence changing to havana tack and making the rider wear a red spotty tie like everyone else!

I'm also thinking as a larger rider... the plain navy jacket should be more flattering...

So, navy hat and jacket, cream jods, dark gloves, black boots & gaiters and a stock, plus mop in a tidy hairnet and bobs your uncle eh?

I only entered last night, its on Sunday, and I have no school to practice in, mwahahaha, I guess I'll be riding it blind then!!!

Which jacket colour? Plain or hacking jacket?
I wear a black hunting jacket

Shirt colour?
Cream or white

Tie or stock?
Stock

Glove colour?
White

Accessories?
I have a whip just in case Castle isn't listening to my leg aids

I wear a black velvet riding hat (not up to current standards, but that's not against the rules!), I wear white breeches, long black boots, and Castle has a black bridle (with a drop noseband) and black synthetic dressage saddle. Flash, Cavesson, and drop nosebands are all allowed

sounds like my kind of preparation. Last week my mum had a hairy fit cos I decided to 'have a go at Medium 64' after the horse had been a sharp arse in the Elementary(previously my Top level). It went ok despite having only had a description of half pass we got a 6 for HPcanter left! Go for it!!
