dressage with youngsters?

hi, my cob will be 4 this summer and has been turnt away since the end of november and i haven't started riding him again yet, but i am thinking about doing a dressage walk and trot test in march to give us something to work towards? it will be his first outing but what do you think? can i even do a walk and trot test with a pony thats not 4 yet?? do you think i should leave it untill he's a bit older? opinions please xx
 
We did walk and trot tests at rising 4 as they take the age from year of birth so he will be counted as 4 now[hope thats correct]
Just keep it forward ,straight and calm and don't be tempted to rush things if you do well. Lateral work and collection can strain young limbs ,don't school too often, do lots of roadwork to get him stronger and fitter.Not too much trotting on roads but lots of variety and FUN.
If that is him in your siggie tell him that 5th picture is a much too advanced movement.lol
 
It depends as some places wont let you ride them at competions untill they have turned 4, you will have to check with the organisers.
 
Im sure you'll be fine. Ive done dressage and tiny weeny SJ competitions on a (late) 3yo. Organisers never ask the age of the horse anyway...! If you feel he's ready then go for it. The experience will do him the world of good.
 
My RI did one on my girlie and she was 1 week shy of her 4th birthday. It went fine except she was more interested in the fact they had a cake sale in the entrance to the arena :-)))))))
 
awww thanks, everyone, you have put my mind at rest, i will get in contact with oragniser and check its ok first.... then i just have to be brave!!! hipefully will ride him tomorrow for first time since end of november ;-/ !!!!
