dressage

I bought the horse I liked then put in the work (both him and me as I hadn't ridden for over 10 years).
He's probably not what some people would think of as a dressage horse as he's a coloured gypsy cob, but he's learning (got his first over 75% at novice recently). When I bought him he could hardly canter and trotted around like a giraffe on speed!

Mines a cob too the one in my avatar and sig :) well done you did you find it hard. I need to get mine doing the basics first once hes been backed so its not going to be this year. But something i want to do with him

I do love a gypsy cob! Hardest thing was him getting his balance, particularly in canter. I moved yards about a year ago and went from having a tiny school to one about 25x55 and that has really helped as before it always felt like we were going to go crashing through the fence out of control whereas now if it all goes wrong we have plenty of space to get ourselves sorted out.

At the moment he is still leaning and improving the medium strides so that's his weak point right now. He can get it, but it's still a little inconsistent some days. He does generally try very hard, but when he has a strop you know about it 😊

Started from scratch, he was an ex-racer and wasn't bought specifically for dressage, but he didn't enjoy jumping so it just sort of happened! I'm pretty much self taught (had about five lessons in the last three years!) and it's not easy haha! But I've learnt a lot and enjoyed it, and he won his first dressage before christmas with 70% :)

Bought an ex-racer (as my first horse - neither of us knew a thing), had an instructor but it all went pear-shaped so was by myself for a couple years and then got a new instructor who is fabulous. We didn't progress a lot before the new instructor, admittedly - but I think his kissing spine had a lot to do with that (only diagnosed this year). He's now competing at Medium, with a small degree of success.
