Ie a small (maybe 1in) wound. It is clean and pus-free. It is a few days old and healing well, but there is a little (again 1in!) 'flap' of skin that could easily attract dirt/straw etc. It is left open during the day when turned out, but at night the fetlock is bandaged using Vetwrap in a 'figure of eight' kind of pattern, with cotton pad underneath to relieve any pressure. Is this right?

I'm not one to ask. lol

My gelding had a wound and flap of skin on his fetlock which wasn't dryin up so i thought i'll cut that bit off..... So I did with a pair of scissors. Horse didn't flinch so it obviously didn't hurt but the blood OMG, it wouldn't stop. I had to hold a dressing on it for 20 minutes before it stopped. i cleaned it and left dressing and vetwrap on it for two days and then changed it. Took it off a day later and it seems fine now. left bandage off so it would dry out and it looks fine now. I keep putting gel on it to stop the flys.

Wash it so it is very clean then cover it with a thick coating of Sudocrem.

You could trim the flap of skin. I would not cover it with any bandages as this will only keep it damp and it needs to be dry.
