I was going to post this entitled "A Tale of Ambulances and Police Cars" but I know from reading others posts many of you are too stressed for the worry of that title.

Well I started the second day of box to friends for a hack quite bouncy and excited but the nerves soon got to me and I dined on a lunch of Toasted crust of stale bread liberally smothered with Raspberry jam and a large mug of Tea.

The boy had to stay in this morning as his field was flooded and he had spent the previous day in the pouring rain sulking under a tree begging to come in. To be on the safe side I did a quick whizz on a lunge line just to check which side of his bed he had got out. He was Mr Chilled Dude.

Loading - today we loaded in his new short pretty useless fleecy anklets nothing like the big butch Mark Todd Travel Boots but as Poufy Boy couldnt cope with grown-ups clothes it seemed wise to let him look like a big girls blouse but stay chilled. He loaded like a dreamboat thanks to the chapter in the fearless horse which told me to tell him he was a good boy even if he moved a millimetre in the right direction.

We boxed to my friends yard and today, as our hack was going on the main road past her fields, would you believe it she had brought all 4 beasts in so that the 3 not going out wouldnt wind him up as we went past their field by running up and down.

Our plan to go out after lunchtime rush and before tea-time rush failed dismally. Its a B road but very fast with lots of bends. As we pootled down the road a Dirty great lorry came close up behind us (I know it was big it nearly caused an eclipse). I waited for young Poufy Boy to p@ss off down the road broncing me off and nothing although he was so busy gawping at something across the field he did forget where his feet were and kept bumping into the pavement kerb.

Next as we approached a blind bend and Railway Bridge we hear an Ambulance siren wailing hurtling down the road. My God I thought that was a bit presumptuous with the forward planning. Would you believe it as they topped the rise and saw two horses decked out like Christmas trees they turned the siren off!! (I forgot to mention Pouffy Boy was fully decked out in his Dayglo Pink and Black Hi Viz.)

We came off the main roads and hacked up a very steep rutted track into Standish Woods. I had to go buckle end as the Pouffy boy didnt like the flies and didnt know he was supposed to plan where his feet went not me.

I pointed out to my friend that her horse is a lot smaller than mine 15.1 I think and she had chosen the wrong trees.

I spent a large amount of time leaning down kissing the boys shoulder to get under them.

We trotted around the woods, No canters as I know that I will die.

Then it was time to hack back along the road to the farm.

Now the road was very busy and the traffic was very fast.
We thanked all the lovely cars who came past us and we were very lucky that it was al the nice people who were out.

A Police car overtook us and waved as they went past so maybe that had helped everyone else be courteous.

We got back to the yard and washed the horses down. Drifter told me he was very tired. He must have been tired because I put him back in his Pouffy boots and led him around to the ramp, calling to my friend to let her know we were going to play the loading game, and he loaded himself parked his legs square and looked at me with a "Home James" air about him.

So there we have it Drifter the Pouffy boy meets Ambulances,Police Cars,Juggernauts and Motorbikes so he appears to be one of them there Bombproof in traffic thingys!!.

Ahh well done you!! Are you too far away to join me for a hack??....... Ah yes see your on another planet is that near Derbyshire at all??
I forgive your lack of cookies as i have chocolate raisins!!

Well done - again! Drifter sounds as though he is enjoying his outings! If you want to hack out around our way pm me - we're near Worcester and have fab hacking!!

Oh well done again!
After reading your previous post, I have arranged with my friend to box Jerry over to her house for a hack out together! I'm so glad your adventure went so well!

I am quite cross with myself as Drifter and I have had a few issues since I bought him. I have always known what a good horse he is but circumstances (several entirely my fault) have caused me to have some severe flying lessons.

Maybe I should be held up as an example of getting it wrong.

I have been very wary of keeping his good name as the times he has deposited me in the dirt have been caused by his insecurity and me putting him too far out of his comfort zone.

His behaviour on his few outings with my bestest friend in the world ever has been impeccable and make me realise I have focussed too much on what he cant do and not what he can.

Nicki68 remember to start slow and build up gradually but good for you.

Just to let you know how good my best friend is she once lent me a bit for 4 years and I once lent her a saddle for a year.

Aw well i'm glad you had such a nice ride and he was a good boy again

Must be such a nice feeling, and hopefully a few more times and the heart racing at 'scary' things will stop

BUT, you are a bit mean keeping all the cookies and for that, i'm going to eat this maaaaasive slab of dairy milk all by my self! nomnomnom...

Please keep your updates coming - they are an absolute hoot to read, you definitely have a knack

The spooky pony will distract you by pulling on your jacket toggles while I steal the cookies!

Well done to your horsie for being so chilled!
