Drinking from puddles out riding?

The beast likes drinking dirty/ stagnant water and puddles. It's not a bad thing in his case because he's not a big drinker anyway.

My old boy always drank plenty of water from a big bucket in his stable overnight. However, when I turned him out in the mornings, he always stopped at the same puddle and took a drink from it. The poor lad looked so confused when he stopped the one day to have a drink and it had dried up....
