i cought some up in a black egg cup and its really white.
is it a sign? could tonight be the night?

From your other posts, it sounds like she has bee running milk for some time. If that's the case, perhaps you could get some frozen colostrum from your vet or from a local stud, because she might not have enough left for littleun. If you can't get hold of any, I personally would get the vet to do the foal's IgG blood test asap after birth, in case he/she needs plasma. Please don't be alarmed by my comment. This happens reasonably often, which is why studs keep a bit of colostrum from a good nursing mares and freeze it... just in case.

Stay awake x

Aw she sounds close now. My mare dripped milk the day she had foal, keep your eye on her tonight could be the night!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Xx

She stop running milk until last night. I don't think I would be able to sleep. It would be the perfect birthday present as it's my birthday tomorrow I can't wait. Hope it does arrive

My foal arrived on my birthday, I hope yours does too it was the best birthday present ever!! :D

Happy birthday!! Hope you have your baby safe and sound now. But if not please do get some colostrum for baby... If they don't get what they need it can be fatal... I'm in that position now with the worry of not knowing if my foal will make it or not.... And my baby did get colostrum, it just wasn't good enough quality for her!! Xx

Hi thank u for birthday wishes but sadly no foal. I was up all night watching her on CCTV but nothing happend. No dripping milk this morning. Not happy bunny. Is that normal to drip milk and not have a foal?

My mare started dripping milk on the saturday, then again on the monday.....had her foal on wed night. She showed every sign for about 10 days: restless, not comfortable, muscles relaxed etc. etc.
Friend's mare showed no signs til the day she foaled then she waxed up at lunchtime, dripped milk in the evening and foaled.
Did you test the milk again indie moo? Both these two mares had pH of 6.2 or lower with high calcium 1-2 days before they foaled.

No I didn't carry on with the milk test because I felt like it wasn't working or I could of measured wrong etc. I don't want to keep messing with her but if she has been dripping milk throughout last Monday daytime. Then she started dripping Sunday just gone and stopped this morning. I was convinced she was going to have the foal by this morning. Same with others that has helped me by posting on here.

Does your vet keep colostrum or have a list of people who have it in it's freezer, give them a ring and find out. Ideally I would like to get some in my freezer. If you are worried about the quality of the colostrum when the foals arrive your vet should be able to test the quality of the colostrum or you could just give your foal extra colostrum if you are worried. It is also worth getting the vet to do a snap test which will test the IgG (immunoglobulin) levels in your foal this should be over 800.
You could be panicking unnecessarily but I feel it is better to be prepared!
:)

Good luck Indie, sounds like your in for a few sleepless nights, a mare of mine dripped milk for 4 days before she foaled. Her filly had to have plasma but both where absolutely fine. Keep us posted when your new arrival finally makes an appearance...

My mare went to 372 days and dripped milk for 3 weeks before. On the day she gave birth it actually ran. Bailey got colostrum fine and everything was great. Good Luck \Rosie was a maiden mare aswell she showed signs for the three weeks and went from being the first to foal to being the last on the yard;)

thank you guys for all your help. i am really worried as i havent seen foal move for about 4-5 days now. still dripping milk. i have gave my vet a call to have a chat just waiting for a phone call back.

many thanks xxx

I wouldn't worry about not seeing the foal move. In the very late stages, they tend to be too big to really wriggle the way they do 2-3 months before birth which is when they really seem to be dancing a jig in there. Also the birthing position means they can't move sideways that much, which is what you would see the most (feet kicking at the mare's flanks).

Just relax, watch her and make sure colostrum/IgG blood test are available when the foal is born.

Waiting for your first foal can be a hairy, but all will soon be forgotten x

i have uploaded 2 videos of my mare dripping her milk. each video lasts up to 3 mins long but towards then end is when she starts dripping like mad. could you help me with this. do they normally do this? is it to much milk she is dripping? i have had a chat to the vet and she didnt seem to be to worried. but she is not the vet i normally use as he is on holiday. she is more farm vet than equine.

this 1st video was taken monday, 2nd video was taken last night.
how long do you think it would be just roughly?

Many thanks guys. im sorry to be a pain but its mine and my mares first foal.

I've had a quick look at both videos and do not think you have anything to worry about. Your mare is leaking such a tiny amount of milk - I had visions of a dripping tap as that is how much my mare dripped the day she foaled. Her legs were covered in milk and when she walked she actually squirted milk! How many days in foal is your mare? I know it's easier siad than done but try not to worry, it's so hard to predict when foalie will arrive x

Hi, it is indeed a sign that your mare is getting closer to foaling although not an indicator of imminent foaling. I have had mares who've ran milk before they foal and others that have barely had a bag until the foal is on the ground. She's not losing a significant amount of milk and at 350 days she is still well within the 'normal' foaling range of 320-370 days. Good luck - foal will be with you when he/she is ready.

Not read the whole thread but I wouldn't worry, Had a quick look at the video and that's nothing honestly.

My latest mare ran milk for a week and I mean ran it ! She had two constant streams every time she moved and her legs were covered on dry milk. Its usually a sign that the foal has moved and is over the udder, hence the pressure. It will probably (if not already done so) ease off for a few days just prior to her giving birth.

Good luck,
