Driving a bigger van largely as a normal vehicle..
Tesco's/general parking
Your to long/wide and you can guarantee some Muppet will park so close you can't get back in, even if you park as far away as possible from the store.
Dents...some idiot will park close and ding you.
General turning etc can also be a pita.
I Often park where I shouldn't sometimes even a disabled bay if it's late in the evening.
I figure a parking ticket is cheaper then the dents! ( Never had a ticket yet)
Oh I forget...getting out of spaces can also be a pita if some Muppet parks to close...always the danger of catching a car with your rear end as you swing round..
A friend of mine did. In theory a good idea only having the upkeep of one vehicle, but in practice she found it massively inconvenient to park, only had three seats and was costing her more in diesel than she bargained for. She had to plan her every journey, going into town (Liverpool) was an absolute no!
Ended up buying a super economical little Peugeot runaround to accompany it, picked up pretty cheaply and was far more convenient.
Remember headroom too! I nearly had to take mine to the dentist once as o/h had taken my car & I couldn't remember how to start an automatic. (Messaged a friend with an automatic who reminded me re having to put foot on brake to start.) When I got to the car park in o/h's car, I checked out of curiosity & did have a bar that I wouldn't have got under so I'd have had to park the lorry on the sliproad to the car park. Probably okay as it's quiet & little used but might not have been okay anywhere else. My usual vehicle is an Aygo & I would far rather take that to the dentist!
When I had a 3.5t Renault master van conversion, my car was off the road for a few weeks so I used it as my day to day vehicle. It wasn’t great but got me about. Parking was a nightmare as was nipping round the smaller roads, but it was a temporary fix.
I wouldn't as others have said. They are so handy for running the horses around but as a day to day vehicle definitely not. Too much hassle as others have said. They can have a surprisingly large turning circle!
It depends how desperate you are. My neighbour is a builder and the son uses the 3.5t flatbed ( horsebox size) as his everyday vehicle. There's a couple who only have quite a large mobile home too.
It would limit where you could go but if you're prepared to use taxis or public transport when needed might be OK.
I wouldn't unless you rarely need to drive anywhere. Definitely not for the city commute!
My van is big, about 24ft long and 9ft high. I will be living in it which is different, but Ive had to accept theres places I cant go and it will be something I have to think about a lot. Fine for me as the pay off is more than worth it. But as an every day vehicle it would be expensive and a hassle.
I used to have a tow car and trailer but wanted a 3.5T. I worked out I could run a 3.5t and a small car (Citroen C3 Picasso) for the same amount (Tax, insurance, diesel) as the cost of the tow car so that could be an option?
Ha hubby used ours 2 days last week to get to work as he had a flat! It wasn't ideal to be driving on the day he picks the kids up from school and getting it parked although in rural mid Devon, at least he wasn't too out of place!
