runs out end of this month-we were due to take it to garage to get checked out pre MOT tomorrow but OH is poorly sick and probably unable to do it. its 30 miles away so needs two to get there and back. could take it monday night I guess but failing that?

Happy to be corrected by as far as I understand, as of Tuesday you are only allowed to drive it directly to the garage for a pre booked mot appointment. Once the mot has expired it will flag up on anpr cameras as expired so more liable to be checked. Things may have changed recently but this is what I was advised when I got myself in a bit of a predicament.
I would get it in Mon or see if the mechanic can collect for you for a fee ??
Hope your oh is better soon

Think you're good to drive it provided it's on the way to be done at the garage. If you're pulled up just tell them that's where you're headed and it should be fine. I've driven all sorts without MOT all over to various places and far as I'm aware it was fine.

right ho-thanks peeps. hoping he'll be well enough by monday or will ring garage first thing monday morning he's come down with the GI bug his daughter had by the sounds of it (I'm keeping well away!).

garage didn't want to book a MOT slot until it was checked out-which is fair enough. tbh its very unlikely we will see anyone on the route there :D but OH is a stickler for being legal.

If current MOT has expired then it can legally be taken directly to a MOT centre BUT IT MUST BE PRE BOOKED

The insurance and licence must be current at all times even to that pre booked MOT
