I wish they could talk and tell us exactly what is bothering them.
Monday was a bad day with Robin. He didn’t want touched, didn’t want tacked up and when I got in to see what he would do he was sharp, spooky, over reactive and ended up rearing. Vet the next day. He tensed hugely when vet ran hand over. Trotted up and moving much better. Agreed my query of ulcers. Booked in for scoping next Thursday
Thursday it was very frozen so I defied the rules and put hay out. Happier boy at night but still off. Yesterday he stayed in with horrendous weather. The whole yard did. Normal Robin last night grooming. Thought that lines up with ulcers as he had been eating hay all day. Although in the morning I had taken him for a walk down the road in hand and he was a nightmare coming back up.
Today got a pm from field buddy. She had been bringing her horse in to ride, Robin came running down. Her horse thought great idea, pulled away and the pair of them careered round field.
I got up to find mud to his elbows/stifle and drenched in sweat. He had obviously had a good old part about. Took him out to hose legs off. Then thought I would wander down the drive. He was foot perfect. Started grooming and he was back to normal Robin. Cuddly and perfectly happy to be groomed etc. I hadn’t planned to ride but thought I would get tack out and see how he reacted. Interested in tack and calm. So put bridle on. Very happy with that. Put saddlecloth on all good. Put saddle on and did up breastplate with absolutely no issue. Monday I couldn’t even do top straps of breastplate up for him throwing head and telling me not too.
So took him to school and had a lovely 20mins mainly in walk. Calm, forward, soft, one minor spook when the cows erupted from a shed. Did a small amount in trot. A bit shuffly for the first 3 or 4 steps but then lovely.
Back to stable and still all cuddly and happy and tucked into hay. The only slightly minor was when I was grooming after and he was a bit tail swishy grooming under tummy.
What on earth is going on?
