Has anyone used driving reins or something similar for long lining? Are they long enough to keep you out of the kicking range in case of bucking? Any drawbacks? I’ve long lined with lunge lines but like the idea of one piece instead but don’t want to be too close to the back end (like German or Portuguese classical dressage- don’t trust this mare enough at the moment). This is to rehab Si issues. Thanks

I use combined web+ rope reins - so the rope is free running through the roller and they are joined at the web ends, would they perhaps work? Longer than driving reins

I know rara tends to just use two lunge lines (given she has a pletora of driving reins also available) but might just be for less faff!

Thanks ester, I’ll google them and have a look

When you say web + rope reins, are these two sets of reins you join together (so you hold the web bit and the rope comes from the bit)? Sorry if I’m being thick

I’ve only done a little long reining but tried a long loop (intended for double lunging) and hated having a loop dangling that could get my feet caught in.

Yes, but longer ones (full size for pony) if pony is not of the type who is happy with you jogging up his butt. (I always establish trot transitions in long reins - good excercise!)
I also always have the reins separate, not buckled, so if things go pear shaped they can't catch on anything as easily.
