drop noseband and dutch gag

Is it ok to use a drop noseband with a 3-ring gag? After my post about George protesting about his flash I am going to borrow a drop to try as a number of you on here seem happy with them.

my sister had troubles with her youngster and a flash she put him in a drop and he is much better for now !

I love drops!! I got a canter -halt - canter transition yesterday which he just would not do in a flash. Also I think the wider strap of the drop is more comfortable for them

I have used one to good effect, also I think they look nicer on some horses than a flash.

Everyones posting about drops at the moment! I never even knew what they were for, and thought they were meaner than flashes, but i'm gonna try one now

thats exactly what i use and have done for years ! tryed others but always end up going back to the drop and gag.

Being from the older generation, (it was drop nose bands and pelhams/kimblewicks for strong horses) I much prefer a drop if I need to have the mouth restricted.

However, personally I hate seeing so many horses mouths strapped up - god knows how many shows you see them with marks left on the face

and for me it is a last resort and normally on a temporary basis. Last time I had to use one was over 7 years ago for a mare that used to cross her jaw and tank off - had it as loose as possible just to stop her doing this - after three months work she was better mannered and never needed again.

This is not to say that they do have their place, but I think people often use them as a matter of course when not needed or trying to get to the root of the problem - bit of a fashion accessory.
