How do I fit it correctly? I've got one that essentially is the right size but how do I know it's sitting in the right place? Haven't got a lesson for another 10 days so can't ask my instructor. Help please!

Front part needs to be on the bony part of the nose - above the top of the false nostril. The length of the front is often a problem as it can be too long and make fitting the lower strap correctly. Too short and it pulls the headpiece too close to the eye.
The lower strap is fitted below the bit and you should be able to fit two fingers between the strap and the chin groove.
Often I find that it helps to fit better if you have your browband longer so that the headpiece is not lying too close to the eyes.
It's a great noseband - I use them with a Fulmer on all my youngsters.
