Drop nosebands

I love drop nosebands, up untill about 2 months i never really knew they existed but now i wouldnt be without it. Then i started using my friends on my horse and he loves it. He is so much more controlable and happy in his mouth with it on!

BUT i cant find one anywhere...i really want a patent one because i have a patent browband and it looks pretty!

Are they just not fashionable or something? Got told by the woman in the tack shop "thats a bit old fashioned isnt it"

Is there anywhere i could get a one made? Or somewhere online i havnt looked that i can buy one for not too much money
 
I'm afraid they're not in fashion at all at the moment! I like them too but a high proportion of people seem to have swtiched to a flash instead. They are about if you look hard enough but can't say I've ever seen a patent one!
 
I think i just want something that isnt out there! Which is rubbish!

That one from robinsons is quite shiny lol might buy it and see...only £10 after all
 
All our local tack shops have them in stock and noticed a lot more at Hickstead this year.
Like many people, when I learnt to ride this was pretty much the only noseband a RS pony would wear and to this day all my horses go in drops.
I had mine made by a professional saddler to match my bridle - you can PM for details if you like!
 
I've been wanting to try one on my boy for a while too. My horse is very sensitive and I think he might go better in that, rather than in the bulky contracption of the crank and flash that came with his dressage bridle.

The tack shops don't sell them, and I tend to prefer buying certain things like this from places where I can have a good look at the leather and sizing before I buy. (I've recently made a few online tack purchses which dispointed me, nasty leather and sizing not as expected)

This is why i wanted one from my tack shop, but apparently they dont have them because they are not fashionable! Grrr
Im not desperate for one because i can keep using the one im using now, but im using a brown one at the moment...which isnt ideal
 
Not much use to you but I got one from Ingatestone in essex last christmas and they had quite a few! Can't remember if they had patent though :)
 
I think they are quite good but countless people fit them totally wrong. One of my mums friends is a lovely person but shes not very knowledgeable and she uses one and fits it so its so loose that she has never undone it as she doesn't need to to put the bridge on and off. I also think they are much more effective than flashes.

Never fear it will be correctly fitted! I took advice from said friends and i have looked u how to fit them and it looks like i have done it right. I will have to take a picture and post it see what you guys think
 
The ones from robinsons aren't that shiney btw, I have one sat around somewhere!
I tried my lad in a drop, but he hates them :/ doesn't mind the flash too much though?
 
Hi I use a drop noseband after my dressage trainer putting one on my horse, he loves it and she swears by them. Mine is a Kate Negus one, I am not sure if they have patent ones but mine is part of a comfort bridle.

It has to be a drop, he hates the flash with a passion, i think it just gives mixed signals to him having the two parts. Hes only 7 and relatively green still.

I really want a patent one....im really annoyed i found a whole bridle with a patent leather drop noseband, browband, reins ect on ebay but the auction is over! Very annoyed, would have been perfect.

I feel your pain! :pI 'm going to try my boy in a drop, he goes quite nicely in a flash, even more so in a grackle, but I much prefer the idea of a drop to a flash. So looking for a drop incase he likes it better, and I want a brown one with brass fittings to match my lovely Stubben bridle, but can't find one anywhere!! :confused: Good luck with finding one though! Will let you know if I come across one on my search! :D

Thats exactly what i am using at the moment! Shame it isnt actually mine or i would let you have it! How frustrating!

Tbh i think i am just looking for the impossible and will have to have a plain one and loose my nice patent leather! Boohoo!

I could but im rubbish and dont know how to go about it. Ive never seen much patent around here..i got my origional bridle in germany

Hehe boot polish is seeming like more and more of an option
 
Sorry! Was worth a try lol I could get a brown drop from there too, but too expensive! Could buy a whole new bridle for that :p
do you have any idea what make the one you're borrowing is?

Only ones i can find are patent effect ones which also end up looking really tatty! Damn me and my need for pretty matching things

You need it loose enough so the horse can chew and salivate so the it can relax it's poll - how loose is it?

Not so tight as to squash the cartilage on the nose and restrict breathing.

I think drops are effective and look quite nice too. I like the robinsons one, can't you just sand it down to take the shine off? I mean, it's less than a tenner!!!
 
I had trouble getting hold of a normal drop - let alone a shiny one! my instructor got mine in the end, she goes really well in it.
 
Pretty sure Hampshire Saddlery in Botley Mills have them in stock.

Not sure they will be patent, but they're very good at trying the hardest to source things!
