Took the ponies for a proper splash around this afternoon with dafthoss (riding my cob as her yellow pony's at home)... Turns out the stream was pretty deep

I think my highland has a water phobia, he just won't get his feet wet :p

this particular moment meant that I had to muck out sporting a lovely wet patch on my jodhs, looking like I'd had an accident :p There may also have been some squawking as cold stream water reached sensitive areas

dafthoss was sensible enough not to get quite as soaking by staying in the shallow(er!) stream...

she did stop to wash her boots off in the floodwater though :D

Residual dampness aside, it's cleaned a lot of mud off both the ponies and my tack. My shiny blue stirrups are now sparkling :)

Most fun I've ever had tack cleaning ;) :D

Looks like you had loads of fun, love the 2nd pic of him leaping. Rather you than me tho to clean ponies & tack :p

haha thanks - y'know what they say - highlands are nature's 4x4! :D (and J is an honourary highland :p). Fergs has certainly out done the off roaders who've attempted (and failed!) to tackle the ford :p For anyone who remembers the previous thread about the stuck disco, we actually saw it being recovered by tractor from where it had been drying out on the farm - I presume they completely failed to get it started

eta, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a wee bit nippy, Stencilface :p

haha I wish the highland fuzzy would've done that - his neck's still muddy and he'll need a bath before the weekend  :D

From the squaking that happened when water went in places you dont want to know I would guess it was cold .

Great photos but stuff that for a game of soldiers... Way too cold...nippy...freezing etc...

And yeah, I'm a wuss who needs warmth these days to maintain any form of wakefulness... :D

Cool :D, don't think my ginger sausage would have been keen, he swerves around little puddles, although we have gone through a river a couple of times with persuasion :D

Nice but I hate to think about your saddle. has it dried out ok, my friends went through water with her English and it totally ruined it.

Brill :D That made me lol :D Looks like fun, but then I did go for a ride on the beach once when it was -3  We didn't go in the sea but it was freezing.

Lucy would have loved it, Herbs would have drowned (he's such a shortarse :p ) and I'm not shore what Merryn would have made of it. He'd have probably gone through it then half an hour later gone "Oh my god deep water" :p ;)

Man, baby coblet would so be easier to bath off in there!!!

And as far as riding through it on hairy.... -_- J.e.a.l.o.u.s!!!

Haha fantastic!!
I took Neddy out for a walk with mum today and I soooo wanted to go for a dip in the ford (which is a good 3ft+ deep!), but I thought better of it, as if he ditched me, I'd be soggy for work...that wouldn't be fun.

I think my Ollycob would love that! Millie-mare is far too ladylike to go wading

haha, this is why mares are no fun ;) :D

:D we've been plotting taking them to the beach to go swimming properly - I added very quickly that I would invest in a wet suit first  Getting cold only makes you appreciate the warmth more though :p

Brilliant! I want a go :D -goes to tack up Sypo and find stream-

DO IT! (and take a camera :p)

Cool :D, don't think my ginger sausage would have been keen, he swerves around little puddles, although we have gone through a river a couple of times with persuasion :D

Haha, when you say your "sausage" are we talking about your horse, or more delicate areas  I'm sure your horsey sausage would love it :D

Nice but I hate to think about your saddle. has it dried out ok, my friends went through water with her English and it totally ruined it.

mine both look fine this morning - they've been soaked and mud encrusted many times before and have always cleaned up ok when I get round to it - your friend must've been really unlucky!

awww poor shortarse Herbie! he'd have had to swim :D I went to the beach on boxing day once and it was sub zero - seriously cold  no way I was going in the sea (not that I could've reached it as the tide was way out ) I'm sure all yours (past and present!) would have tackled it fine - they're expert hackers, and you have such enviable hacking *jealous* :D

I see Andy has been a good influence ;)

Looks very good fun though but must have been freezing, glad I did it on a warm day :D

Ha yes, Andy was totally the inspiration for this! :D You've had "warm" days  It's just been blech here the whole time

Hehe andy was the inspiration for this mainly :D although sadly there havnt been any warm days .

I'm not sure the yellow pony would have been quite so keen on the idea  it may have taken a bit of persuasion, hes bad enough when the stream is at its normal level . Must say that J is the unlimate master and he was awesome didnt even think about it just went through even when I lifted my legs in to funny positions to keep my feet dry :p and he does the best I'll look after the muppet on top mode :o.

ooooer I'll bet that was shockingly chilly in certain places:eek::eek:

you have no idea

Haha fantastic!!

WUSS! Never, ever think about the possibe consequences ("I could break my neck" "I could drown" "I could be wet for work") when you have the opportunity to play ponies in a seriously cool way  :D

lol! doubt i would ever force CS in to that, he wont even walk through a damp patch of sand!!!!!!!!!

looks fab fun :)

YES! Finally something that Fergs is "better" than CS at :D lol :p It's all about breeding, he is a highland bog pony after all - he has to deal with these things... CS is far too refined and well bred to indulge in such peasant-like occupations :D

Sooo jealous wish we had hacking like that!

it's normally a bog standard by way - not exciting at all - but the floods have fairly lived it up :D:D

Man, baby coblet would so be easier to bath off in there!!!

Ha, exactly! I said to Fergs if he'd put his head under and let me scrub his neck, he wouldn't need a bath before we go to horseball at the weekend. He declined, so he will need one. Least it saves doing his body and tail (assuming he doesn't roll too much today  )

he was totally in nanny mode! Every time dh ducked under a tree or moved out of the saddle, he slowed up / stopped to let her get back in the saddle in case she fell off  I think he thought she was a small child he had to babysit :D:D:D

Bless him didnt stop him trying to scrape me on a tree . But I do think he genuinly worried I was going to come off especally when we were playing round with dodgey xc positions, poor J must be hard looking after some one who keeps throwing them selves in to funny positions.
