Basically heard that at a BSJA event today (won't say where or who involved due to current investigations) that a pony rider found a pill on the ground and handed it in to the organisers. Next some of the ponies in one of the main classes starting going a bit 'odd', one just very lazy another getting to the point of struggling to stay standing. The rest of the day's classes got cancelled, vets called up and multiple blood tests taken from several and not only the obviously affected ponies.

At moment the 'gossip' is that one person was spotted with a number of tablets earlier in day and is under suspicion of drugging the affected ponies with sedatives.

I'm a bit in shock to say least as know all the people involved. Even if it wasn't this person it seems that someone has given these ponies something and it could have been potentially very dangerous for the unsuspecting riders especially as they were due to go in and jump a sizeable 1m10/1m15 track at the time.

Waiting to hear more news now, might get some tomorrow as the senior day is tomorrow and is at this stage still going ahead. Won't be much though as they will have to wait for blood test results and not sure how long they take!??!

but yes thats your bit of scandal for the day.

always the sj'ers... dodgy lot!

Hope if something untoward was going on whoever was responsible (and not just the messenger boy) gets caught and prosecuted, and not just by the BSJA (you're the laywer, you must be able to think of some things they could be done for if it is the case).

well if tests come back positive for sedatives its almost certain the police will become involved as for starters I would imagine any sedatives powerful enough to have an effect on said ponies couldn't just be carried by any tom dick or sally!!

If the gossip is correct the person basically was drugging their child's main opponent's ponies, how low can you get. Also if again sedatives (or other drug) found I can see some very hefty if not lifetime bans from the BSJA being thrown at those responsible which should just be the start.

Police could only get involved if its controlled substance, otherwise the owners of ponies involved could probably get a good civil case together for negligence, but whether there are any funds they could potentially recover if it came to it is a whole different ball game!

Oh my lord - I am, for once, stuck for words

Personally I hope the perpetraitor (sp) gets a lifetime ban - this behaviour is incredibly dangerous and stupid and selfish and just WRONG

That's terrible! And you're so right, what would have happened if a pony fell on a rider..

Certainly if proved guilty the person/people responsible should have a lifetime ban, and I would hope be prosecuted as well for having been likely to cause injury or death. It's a very sad fact that some people (I hope and believe that it's only a small minority) in all sports (and other aspects of life) feel driven to cheat. I fail to see what personal satisfaction, as opposed to financial, they can achieve if they succeed in this way.

Thats awful, heard a similar story when i was at Trailblazer Finals, the pony next to us did BSJA and they went to Scope one year and they had mentioned that some ponies were getting drugged!
A friend of mine years ago when she was doing BSJA had her pony drugged by someone but made is psycho.

Is there really any need for it?

there is no need at all as an answer.

National newspapers have now got hold of story and its most likely going to be in at least one over the next few days. Almost certain the person suspected is responsible now with new evidence I have learnt.

Police are involved and are seriously considering charges. along lines of ciminal negligence i believe. Drug involved was ACP and was fed under the guise of a polo (pill in middle).

The local committee met this morning for crisis talk but lifetime ban is very quickly heading in direction of person blamed due to the amount of evidence now against them.

I feel sorry for the kid mostly as this will have quite serious implications on any further showjumping he will be able to do.

It is horrifying what legnths people will go to in order to win a class! They are just very sick in their heads to think that they can get away with trying to get rid of the competition in such a way...what is next, actually stealing the other horses or physicaly stopping them from competing but inflicting injuries on them?! I hope that they are caught and get a life ban, jail sentence and fine should also be included in my opinion......but if the pills (or even just one of them) had been laying around you never know what could have eaten it, since my dog is on a diet and wants to eat anything in sight he probably would have done, given the chance!....kids could have even picked it up and could have led to even more devestating effects.....all for one person being jelous over the competition?! ugh that has made me mad..hence the rant!

Good god
is winning really that important that people would risk lives?

Exactly my thoughts. It could have turned into manslaughter at the worst. How stupid and irresponsible.

OMG! Thats unbelievable! Its really sad the lengths some people will go to. I hope they do get a lifetime ban from the BSJA - we really dont want people like that around. Its dangerous and not what the sport is intended to be about.

They should get a life!

haven't heard on radio but although only 2 ponies blood tested officially and one unofficially they reckon she could have doped easily up to 10 ponies, the problem is because ACP affects each pony differently without blood testing each and every pony they just don't know. And as only 2 official blood test kits in the island they could only test two. But 'Flying Sunbeam' was tested the next day but not with an official kit although results would be no different to if official kit or not just for purposes of BSJA & Police investigation must be with official kit.

Local rag and my mum in particular (who co-wrote original article) are a tad annoyed as they refused to give jumping photos of the woman's son unless they pixelated his face as unfair on him but they refused and got a showing photo of him from local photographer which has been printed unedited which I feel is rather unfair on the son to say the least as its bad enough for him as it is. Luckily though they did change the original tag line that read 'pony club mum accused' as that could of got them in real trouble as had nothing to do with PC!

Just got to wait and see on results now that can take up to a week!!
